හැටන් දික්ඔය නගර සභාවේ නිලධාරින්ගේ රාජකාරියට බාධා සිදුකරන බව පවසමින් එහි සමස්ථ කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය 22වන දින නගර සභා කාර්යාලය වසා දමා පැය කිපයක උද්ගෝෂනයක් පවත්වන ලදි.
හැටන් පොදු වෙළද පල මාර්ගයේ පදික මාර්ග අවහිර කරමින් සිදුකරන ලද පදික වෙලදාම් ඉවත් කිරිමට හැටන් දික්ඔය නගර සභාවේ නිලධාරින් කටයුතු කරන විටදි එම නිලධාරින්ගේ රාජකාරියට බාධා එල්ල කරමින් එම නිලධාරින්ට මෙන්ම නගර සභාපති අශෝක කරුණාරත්න මහතාට බැද වැදිමට විරෝධය දක්වමින් මෙම උද්ගෝෂනය පවත්වන ලදි.
මෙම උද්ගෝෂනය පැවති අතරතුරදි එම නගර සභාවේ උප සභාපති සුරේන්ද්රන් මහතා හා විපක්ෂ මංත්රිවරුන් කිප දෙනකු පැමින බිමතින් මෙම ස්ථානයට සේවකයකු පැමින ඇති බව පවසමින් උද්ගෝෂයන් සමග බහින් බස් විමක් හේතුවෙන් එහි දැඩි උනුසුම් තත්වයක් ගත් අතර පසුව උප සභාපති ඇතුළු නාගරික මංත්රිවරුන් පිටව යන ලදි
මෙම උද්ගෝෂනය පවතින අතර තුරදි මෙම බැන වැදිම් හා රාජකාරියට බාධා කිරිම් සම්බන්දයෙන් අදාල පාර්ෂවයන් සමග හැටන් මුලස්ථාන පොලිසියේ පරික්ෂනයක්ද පැවති අතර එම පරික්ෂනයෙන් පසුව හැටන් දික්ඔය නගර සභාපති ඇතුළු අදාල නිලධාරින් පැමින උද්ගොෂෙනයේ යෙදි සිටි පිරිසට කරුනු පැහැදිලි කල අශෝක කරුණාරත්න මහතා පවසන ලද්දේ මෙම සිද්ධිය පිලිබදව පොලිසිය පරික්ෂන මෙහෙයවු බවත්ය.
එහිදි අදාල පාර්ෂවයන් සදහා සමාව ලබා දිමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත් තමන් මෙම තනතුර බාර ගත්තේ මුදල් ඉපයිමට නොව මෙම නගරය සංවර්ධනය කිරිමට බවත් එම තත්වයන් මත ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතාගේ හා වත්මන් රජයේ ආධාර උපකාර මත මෙම නගරය සංවර්ධනය කිරිමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත්ය.
එමෙන්ම ඉදිරියේදි නගරයේ පවතින සියළුම පදික වෙළදාම් නතර කිරිමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත් ඒ අනුව සියළුම පදික වෙලදාම් දින 14ක් තුලදි ඉවත් කර ගන්නා ලෙස එම පදික වෙළදුන්ට ලිඛිතව දැනුම්දි එයට අවනත නොවන සියළුම පදික වෙලදුන් ඉවත් කිරිමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත් මෙම නගරය සංවර්ධය කිරිමේ කටයුතු සදහා සමස්ථ කර්ය මණ්ඩලයේ සහය තමන් අපේක්ෂා කරන බවත්ය.
මෙම අදහස් දැක්විමෙන් පසු උද්ගෝෂනය නතර කර සභා කාර්යාල විවෟත කර සේවක පිරිස සුපුරුදු ලෙස තම රාජකාරි ආරම්භ කිරිමට පියවර ගන්නා ලදි.

Protests Erupt at Hatton Municipal Council Over Trade Restrictions
A significant protest unfolded at the Hatton Municipal Council office on the 22nd, where municipal employees rallied against what they described as disruptions to their official duties. This demonstration coincided with efforts by council officers to clear pedestrian traders from the public market road.
The protestors asserted that their actions were a response to the hindrance faced by municipal officials, particularly targeting municipal chairman Ashoka Karunaratne, as they attempted to carry out their responsibilities. Tensions escalated as both council officials and opposition members expressed their dissent, leading to heated exchanges among the demonstrators.
During the protest, there was an instance where an unknown worker arrived at the scene, intensifying the unrest due to arguments and verbal clashes. The situation prompted the departure of several council members, including the deputy chairman Surendran, amidst growing chaos.
As the demonstration continued, local police conducted an inquiry into the disturbances concerning the obstruction of officials and disruption of their duties. Chairman Karunaratne later clarified to the crowd that the police were managing the investigation into the incident.
He also extended an olive branch, stating that measures would be taken to ensure forgiveness and reconciliation among the parties involved. He emphasized that his tenure was motivated by a commitment to the development of the city rather than financial gains and highlighted ongoing initiatives backed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the current government for urban development.
Plans were announced to systematically halt all street trading activities in the area, with notifications dispatched to all traders to vacate by the 14th of the month. Karunaratne conveyed his expectation for the cooperation of all stakeholders in promoting urban development.
Following these assurances, the protest came to a close, and municipal operations resumed in their usual capacity, allowing employees to begin their official duties once more.
