නෝර්වුඩ් ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාවේ මාසික සභා රැස්වීම එම සභාවේ සභාපති ජොහන්නස් ෆ්‍රැන්සිස් ඇලන් (ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ) මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් (21) දින පැවති අවස්ථාවේ ආණ්ඩු පක්ෂයේ සහ විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් එක්ව සභාපතිවරයාගේ ක්‍රියා කලාපයට විරෝධය පෑමත් සමග එම සභාව තුල දැඩි උණුසුම් තත්වයක් ඇති වීම හේතුවෙන් ආණ්ඩු පක්ෂයේ සහ විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් සභාවෙන් පිටතට පැමිණිම නිසා සභාව විනාඩි 10කට කල් දැමීමට සභාපතිවරයා පියවර ගැනිණ.

මාසික සභා රැස්වීම ආවරණය කිරිමට ගිය මාධ්‍යවේදින්ට මාසික සභා රැස්වීම ආවරණය කිරිමට සභාපතිවරයා අවසර ලබා නොදී සභාපතිවරයාට හිතවත් මාධ්‍ය වේදින් නොවන දෙදෙනෙකුට මාසික සභා රැස්වීම ආවරණය කිරිමට සභාපතිවරයා විසින් අවසර ලබා දීම සම්බන්ධයෙන්ද ආණ්ඩු පක්ෂයේ සහ විපක්ෂයෙන් මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් සිය විරෝධය දක්වනු ලැබුහ.

සභාපතිවරයාගේ ක්‍රියා කලාපයට විරෝධය දැක්වූ ආණ්ඩු පක්ෂයේ සහ විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් කියා සිටියේ, සභාව නියෝජනය කරන විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් තිදෙනෙකුගේ සහයෝගය මත සභාපතිවරයා ක්‍රියා කරන බවත්, එම මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් තිදෙනා පමණක් ලබා දෙන යෝජනා ක්‍රියාවට නැංවීමට සභාපතිවරයා කටයුතු කරන බවයි.

සභාපතිවරයෙකුගේ කාර්ය භාරය නොදත් අයෙකු එම තනතුර සදහා පත් කිරිම හමුවේ නෝර්වුඩ් ප්‍රාදේශීය සභාව මෙවැනි අර්බුදකාරි තත්වයකට පත් වී ඇති බවයි එම සභාව නියෝජනය කරන ලංකා කම්කරු කොංග්‍රසයේ සහ ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් කියා සිටියේ.

මාසික සභා රැස්වීම ආවරණය කිරිමට මාධ්‍යට අවසර ලබා නොදීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අප එම සභාවේ සභාපතිවරයාගෙන් අප කල විමසුමකට ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, සභාවේ පවතින උණුසුම් තත්වය පමණක් මාධ්‍ය මගින් ප්‍රචාරය කරන බවත්, සභාපතිවරයා වශයෙන් තමන් කරන ප්‍රකාශ කිසිවක් මාධ්‍ය යෙන් ප්‍රචාරය නොකරන නිසා තමන් මාධ්‍යට වාරණයක් පැනවූ බවයි.

එවැනි තත්වයක් මත තමන්ට හිතවත් දෙදෙනෙකු (21) දින පැවති මාසික සභා රැස්විම ආවරණය කිරිමට අවසර ලබා දුන් බවයි.

Contention Marks Monthly Meeting of Norwood Pradeshiya Sabha

The monthly meeting of the Norwood Pradeshiya Sabha descended into chaos as council members loyal to both the governing party and the opposition vehemently protested against Chairperson Johannas Francis Allen's leadership. Tensions reached a boiling point, leading to a temporary recess just ten minutes into the session that took place on the 21st.

Media representatives, eager to cover the proceedings, found themselves shut out from access as the chairperson denied permission for their attendance. Instead, only two media personnel, who are favored by the chairperson, were permitted entry, prompting strong objections from both government and opposition members.

Members of both factions expressed their frustration, claiming that decisions were being made based solely on the support of three opposition members. They emphasized that the chairperson's actions seemed to disproportionately favor these allies, undermining the collaborative spirit expected in such a council environment.

Amid the unrest, council members pointed out that the Pradeshiya Sabha has been mired in turmoil due to the appointment of an inexperienced individual to the chair position. Representatives from the Lanka Labour Congress and the National People's Power asserted that this has compounded the council’s difficulties.

In light of the media ban, when asked about the press's restrictions, the chairperson stated that only the existing disorder warranted media attention, suggesting that his remarks were not for public dissemination. This stance further fueled the discontent among council members who were seeking transparency in governance.

In an unexpected turn, the chairperson later granted permission for the two favored journalists to cover the meeting, although this selective access did little to quell the underlying tensions that pervade the council.
