 ජල කලමනාකරණ කමිටුව (03) දින ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහවැලි අධිකාරියේදී පැවැත්විණ. මේ සඳහා මෙහිදී විශේෂයෙන් ඉදිරියේදී ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ඇතුළු සමස්ත ලෝකයටම බලපාන එල්නිනෝ තත්ත්වය තුල රට මුහුණදෙන අභියෝග සහ ඊට සූදානම් විය යුතු ආකාරය සම්බන්ධයෙන් කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග ඇමති කේ.ඩී. ලාල් කාන්ත මහතාගේ ප‍්‍රධානත්වයෙන් සාකච්චාවක් පැවැත්වින.

මෙහිදී කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්‍යාංශයට අදාළ සියලු ආයතන විසින් ඉදිරි තත්ත්වයන්ට මුහුණ දෙන ආකාරය සම්බන්ධයෙන් සිය සැලසුම් ඉදිරිපත් කළේය.

කෘෂිකර්ම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සඳහන් කළේ වී වගාවේදී මාස දෙක හමාරෙන් අස්වනු ලබාගත හැකි වී ප්‍රභේද වගා කිරීම කෙරෙහි ගොවීන් යොමු වීම වඩාත් යෝග්‍ය බවයි.

නිසි කාලයට වගාව ආරම්භ කිරීම කෙරෙහි ද ගොවීන් අවධානය යොමු කළ යුතුය. වැසි ජලය ගබඩා කිරීමට ද ගොවීන් නැඹුරු වීම්ེකෙරෙහිද සාකච්චා විය.

ඉදිරි මාස් කන්නයේ සැලසුම් වලට අමතරව 2027 යල් කන්නයේ ඇතිවන තත්වයන් පිළිබදවද අවධානය යොමු විය. අතරමැදි කන්නයේ වගා කරන මුං වගාවට ඇතිවන බලපෑම සහ ඒවාට විසදුම්ද සාකච්චා කරන ලදී.

මෙහිදී වී වගා කරන ස්ථානවල බඩඉරිඟු වගා කිරීමට හැකියාවක් පවතින්නේද සහ හැකියාවක් පවතින්නේ නම් ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් විශේෂ සොයා බැලිමක් සිදු කරන ලෙස නිළධාරීන්ට අවධාරණය කලේය.

ඉදිරි කන්න සඳහා රටේ බීජ අවශ්‍යතාවය සම්බන්ධයෙන් ද මෙහිදී අවධානය යොමු විය. ජාතික පොහොර ලේකම් කාර්යාලය විසින් රටේ පොහොර අවශ්‍යතාවය සම්බන්ධයෙන් කරුණු ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලදී.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට විදුලි බල හා බලශ්කති නොයෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය අක්‍රම් ඉල්ලෙයාස් මහතා , කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්‍යාංශය නියෝජනය කරන ආයතන මෙන්ම විදුලිබල හා බලශක්ති අමාත්‍යාංශය, නිවාස ඉදිකිරීම් සහ ජල සම්පාදන අමාත්‍යාංශය, ජාතික ජල සම්පාදන හා ජලාපවහන මණ්ඩලය, කාලගුණ විද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, වනජීවී දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, ආපදා කලමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානය නියෝජනය කරමින් නිලධාරීන් සහභාගී විය

Sri Lanka's Water Management Committee Addresses El Niño Challenges

The Water Management Committee convened on the 3rd of this month at the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka, focusing on the critical challenges posed by the looming El Niño phenomenon affecting Sri Lanka and the broader global community. Under the leadership of Minister Duminda Dissanayake, discussions revolved around the country's agricultural, livestock, land use, and irrigation strategies in response to these impending climatic changes.

Representatives from all relevant institutions within the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation presented their strategies for tackling future challenges. Emphasis was placed on essential agricultural practices, with the Department of Agriculture recommending farmers take strides toward cultivating rice varieties that can yield a harvest within a two-and-a-half-month timeframe.

Farmers were encouraged to promptly initiate planting schedules and to focus on timely cultivation. Additionally, discussions highlighted the importance of effective rainwater harvesting techniques.

In preparation for the upcoming months, attention was also drawn to the conditions expected to arise in the Yala cultivation season of 2027. The impact on mid-season crops, particularly pulses, and the potential solutions to these challenges were thoroughly examined.

Officials urged the identification of regions suitable for pulse cultivation, emphasizing the need for detailed investigations if such opportunities exist. Furthermore, the committee addressed the nation’s requirements for seeds in the upcoming planting season, with the National Fertilizer Secretariat providing insights into fertilizer needs across the country.

Notable participants included Minister Akram Illyas representing the Ministry of Power and Energy, and other key figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation, along with representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Water Supply, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, the Meteorological Department, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, and the Disaster Management Centre.
