ඩොලර් ලක්‍ෂ තුනක් ගැන ඇමති කියන්නේ බොරු..- යුපුන් අබේකෝන්ගෙන් ප‍්‍රතිචාර

 තමන් ශ්‍රී ලංකාව නියෝජනය කිරීම සඳහා රජයෙන් අමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් 300,000ක මුදලක් කොන්දේසියක් ලෙස ඉල්ලා සිටි බවට ක්‍රීඩා අමාත්‍ය සුනිල් කුමාර ගමගේ මහතා කළ ප්‍රකාශය ශ්‍රී ලංකා කෙටි දුර ධාවන ශූර යුපුන් අබේකෝන් තරයේ ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරයි.

බී.බී.සී සිංහල සේවය සමඟ විශේෂ සම්මුඛ සාකච්ඡාවකට එක්වෙමින් ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේ, අදාළ මුදල තමන්ට සහ තම සහායක කණ්ඩායමට 2021 වසරේ සිට ලැබිය යුතුව තිබූ හිඟ මුදල් සහ පෙර පැවති රජයන් විසින් ලබා දීමට පොරොන්දු වූ ගෙවීම්වල එකතුවක් බවයි.

"මම දිගටම තරඟ කිරීම සඳහා ඩොලර් 300,000ක් කොන්දේසියක් විදිහට ඉල්ලුවේ නැහැ. ඒ ඉල්ලීම කළේ කලින් හිටපු අමාත්‍යවරුන් ලබා දුන් පොරොන්දු සහ වසර හතරකට වැඩි කාලයක් තිස්සේ පවතින නොවිසඳුණු හිඟ මුදල් පදනම් කරගෙනයි. ඒ හැමදේකටම අදාළ ලේඛන මා සතුව තිබෙනවා. මම අමාත්‍යවරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියේ වසර හතරක් තිස්සේ ඇදී යන මෙම ගැටලුව විසඳා දෙන ලෙස පමණයි," යැයි යුපුන් පවසා සිටියේය.

අමාත්‍යවරයාගේ ප්‍රකාශය හේතුවෙන් තමන් දැඩි කලකිරීමට පත්ව ඇති බව පවසන යුපුන්, එමගින් තමන් මුදලට පමණක් රට වෙනුවෙන් දුවන ක්‍රීඩකයෙකු ලෙස සමාජයට වැරදි චිත්‍රයක් මවා ඇති බව පෙන්වා දෙයි.

"ඒ ප්‍රකාශය මාව අනවශ්‍ය ලෙස දේශපාලනයට ගැබ් කරනවා. ඉතාලි පුරවැසිභාවය ලබා ගැනීමට ඕනෑතරම් අවස්ථා තිබියදීත්, මම ශ්‍රී ලංකා ධජය ජාත්‍යන්තරයට රැගෙන ගියේ දැඩි දේශප්‍රේමයකින්. එවැනි ක්‍රීඩකයෙකු දේශද්‍රෝහියෙකු ලෙස හැඟවෙන පරිදි ප්‍රකාශ නිකුත් කිරීම කණගාටුදායකයි," ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළේය.

වීඩියෝ සාකච්ඡාවේදී යුපුන් පෙන්වා දුන්නේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ක්‍රීඩා පද්ධතිය තුළ පවතින අස්ථාවරභාවය තමන්ගේ සමුගැනීමට ප්‍රධාන හේතුවක් වූ බවයි. ක්‍රීඩකයෙකු දක්ෂතා දක්වන විට පමණක් ඔවුන්ට සැලකීම වෙනුවට, ක්‍රීඩකයන්ගේ අනාගතය සුරක්ෂිත කෙරෙන විධිමත් 'ක්‍රීඩා කොන්ත්‍රාත්' ක්‍රමවේදයක් රට තුළ තිබිය යුතු බව ඔහු යෝජනා කරයි.

එවැනි ක්‍රමවේදයක් නොමැති වීම නිසා ක්‍රීඩකයන්ට තමන්ගේ පෞද්ගලික මුදල් වැය කරමින් පුහුණුවීම් සහ උපකරණ ලබා ගැනීමට සිදුව ඇති බවත්, එය ජාත්‍යන්තර මට්ටමේ ක්‍රීඩකයෙකුට දැරිය නොහැකි පීඩනයක් බවත් ඔහු පවසයි.

තමන් ක්‍රීඩාවෙන් සමුගැනීමට තීරණය කළේ රජය මුදල් ලබා නොදීම නිසාම නොව, වසර ගණනාවක් තිස්සේ  පවතින කලකිරීම් සහ නිසි ජාතික ක්‍රීඩා ප්‍රතිපත්තියක් නොමැති වීම හේතුවෙන් බව යුපුන් අබේකෝන් මෙහිදී යළිත් අවධාරණය කර සිටියේය.

Top Sprinter Yuppon Abekon Refutes Minister's Claim Over Funding Request

In a strong rebuttal, Sri Lankan short-distance sprinting champion Yuppon Abekon has dismissed the recent statement made by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, who claimed that the athlete sought a conditional grant of $300,000 from the government to represent the country.

During an exclusive interview with BBC Sinhala, Abekon clarified that the amount referred to was not a new request for financial support to continue competing. Instead, it was a cumulative figure representing unpaid dues and promises made by previous administrations dating back to 2021.

“I did not request $300,000 as a precondition for my participation. This figure is based on unfulfilled commitments made by former ministers and the longstanding financial shortfalls that have persisted for over four years,” he asserted. He added that he has documentation to support his claims and that his appeal to the minister was merely to resolve this ongoing issue.

Feeling troubled by the minister's remarks, Abekon pointed out that they painted a skewed picture of him as an athlete solely motivated by money, rather than representing his country.

“Such comments unjustly embroil me in political controversy. Despite having numerous opportunities to obtain Italian citizenship, I have proudly taken the Sri Lankan flag to international events out of deep patriotism. It is disheartening to think that a player like me could be described as unpatriotic,” he lamented.

Abekon also highlighted the instability within the Sri Lankan sports framework as a significant factor leading to his retirement. He suggested that instead of considering athletes only when they achieve success, Sri Lanka needs a structured sports contracting system to secure their futures.

The lack of such a framework forces athletes to subsidize their training and equipment out of their own pockets, a burden he described as unbearable for international-level competitors.

He reaffirmed that his decision to step away from the sport was not solely based on the government’s failure to provide funding but rather the result of years of stagnation and the absence of a proper national sports policy.
