ලබන සැප්තැම්බර් මාසයේදී එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මහා මණ්ඩල සැසියට සහභාගී වීම සඳහා නිව්යෝර්ක් නුවරට පැමිණීමට නියමිත ඉශ්රායෙල් අග්රාමාත්ය බෙන්ජමින් නෙතන්යාහු අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට ඇති නීතිමය හැකියාව පිළිබඳව නිව්යෝර්ක් නගරාධිපති සොහ්රාන් මම්දානි ගවේෂණය කරමින් සිටියි.
ගාසා තීරයේ සිදුකළ බව කියන යුද අපරාධ සහ මනුෂ්යත්වයට එරෙහි අපරාධ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජාත්යන්තර අපරාධ අධිකරණය විසින් 2024 නොවැම්බර් මාසයේදී නෙතන්යාහුට එරෙහිව අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමේ වරෙන්තුවක් නිකුත් කරන ලදී.
යුද්ධයේදී කුසගින්න ආයුධයක් ලෙස භාවිතා කිරීම ඇතුළු අමානුෂික ක්රියා සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඔහුට එහිදී චෝදනා එල්ල වී තිබේ.
නගරාධිපති මම්දානි පවසන්නේ අග්රාමාත්යවරයා රඳවා තබා ගැනීමේ නීත්යානුකූලභාවය පිළිබඳව තමන් නගරයේ නීති අංශය සමඟ සක්රීය සාකච්ඡාවක නිරත වන බවයි.
"නෙතන්යාහු අයිති වන්නේ හේග් නුවරට බව මා විශ්වාස කරනවා. ඔහු ජාත්යන්තර අපරාධ අධිකරණය විසින් චෝදනා ලැබූ යුද අපරාධකරුවෙක්," යැයි නගරාධිපතිවරයා අවධාරණය කළේය.
මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ප්රතිචාර දක්වමින් එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවිධානයේ ඉශ්රායෙල් තානාපති ඩැනී ඩැනොන් චෝදනා කළේ නගරාධිපතිවරයා යුදෙව් විරෝධී රැල්ලක් නිර්මාණය කිරීමට සහ වෛරය වැපිරීමට උත්සාහ කරන බවයි.
කෙසේ වෙතත්, අග්රාමාත්ය නෙතන්යාහු මෑතකදී පැවති සම්මුඛ සාකච්ඡාවකදී පවසා ඇත්තේ තමන් මෙම තර්ජන පිළිබඳව සැලකිලිමත් නොවන බවයි.

New York Mayor Considers Legal Action Against Israeli PM Netanyahu
As September approaches, New York City Mayor Sohrahn Mamdani is exploring the legal avenues regarding the potential arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, set to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
This development follows the issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Netanyahu, pertaining to alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to actions in the Gaza Strip. The warrant is scheduled for November 2024.
Netanyahu faces accusations of employing inhumane tactics during the conflict, including the utilization of human shields as weapons. The mayor has stated that discussions with the city’s legal department are ongoing to assess the viability of any action regarding the Prime Minister's apprehension.
"I believe Netanyahu belongs in The Hague. He is a war criminal charged by the International Criminal Court," Mayor Mamdani emphasized, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
In response, Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, accused the mayor of attempting to stir anti-Semitic sentiments and incite further hostility. He condemned any rhetoric that might foster division or animosity.
However, Netanyahu recently remarked during a press briefing that he remains undeterred by such threats. He expressed confidence in his legal standing during such international engagements.
Legally, neither the United States nor Israel are members of the International Criminal Court, and U.S. federal law prohibits local authorities from complying with requests from the ICC. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has previously stated that the mayor lacks legal authority to carry out an arrest of a sitting Prime Minister. Nevertheless, Mayor Mamdani affirmed his readiness to take any necessary actions within the framework of the law.
