Explosive Discoveries at Police Officer's Residence in Mahanuwara

Authorities in Mahanuwara have made a shocking discovery at the residence of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, uncovering three live hand grenades and a knife measuring approximately two and a half feet in length. This significant find was uncovered by the Special Crimes Investigation Division during a search operation.

The operation, carried out on October 17, was initiated following information provided by the officer's wife. Based on her statement to a senior police officer in charge of the Mahanuwara division, investigators searched the residence where they found explosive materials and the large knife concealed in the officer's clothing wardrobe.

The Assistant Superintendent, currently serving in the Kankasanturai area, is a father of three and reportedly has been embroiled in familial disputes with his wife for approximately nine years, as revealed during police investigations.

The recovered grenades and knife have been handed over to the Palleykele police for further investigative procedures.

Authorities are expected to obtain a statement from the Assistant Superintendent regarding the findings, while both the Mahanuwara Special Crimes Investigation Unit and the Palleykele police conduct a coordinated inquiry into the incident.
