 දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගයෙන්ම සංවර්ධනය වන රට ශ‍්‍රී ලංකාව යයි ලෝක බැංකුව විසින් සහතික කර ඇතැයි නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය ටී.බී. සරත් මහතා කල ප්‍රකාශය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම අසත්‍ය යයි පුවත් සත්‍යාපන කරන ආයතනයක් වන Fact Crescendo පවසයි.

අපගේ කරුණු විමර්ශනයෙන් පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ, ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගයෙන්ම සංවර්ධනය වන රට හෝ දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගයෙන්ම සංවර්ධනය වන ආර්ථිකය සහිත රට බවට ප්‍රකාශ කිරීම වැරදි බවයි. දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගයෙන්ම දියුණු වන රට ලංකාව බවට ලෝක බැංකුව විසින් ද කිසිවිටෙකදී සඳහන් කර නැත. 

දකුණු ආසියාවේ ඉහළම ආර්ථික වර්ධන වේගයක් පෙන්නමින් කලාපයේම ආර්ථික වර්ධනය බලපාන්නේ, ඉහළ වර්ධන වේගයක් පෙන්වන ඉන්දියාවයි. දකුණු ආසියාවේ මෙන්ම ලෝකයේ වේගයෙන්ම වර්ධනය වන ප්‍රධාන ආර්ථිකය වන්නේ ඉන්දියාවයි. භූතානය ද ලංකාවට වඩා වැඩි ආර්ථික වර්ධන වේගයක් පෙන්න්නුම් කළ ද එය ඉතා කුඩා ආර්ථිකයකි.

කෙසේ නමුත්, ලෝක බැංකු නවතම වර්ගීකරණ අනුව, ලංකාව ඉහළ මැදි ආදායම් ලබන රටක් දක්වා උසස් වී තිබුනේ, දකුණු ආසියාවේ රටවල් අතරින්, 2024 ට සාපේක්ෂව 2025 දී, ඒක පුද්ගල දළ ජාතික ආදායමේ වැඩිම වර්ධනයක් වාර්තාකර ඇති රට බවට පත්වෙමින්. මේ පුවත ඔස්සේ දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගයෙන්ම වර්ධනය වන රට ලංකාව බවට වැරදි නිගමනය නිර්මාණය වී ඇති බව අනුමාන කළ හැකිය. 

ලංකාව මෑතක දී ලද වර්ගීකරණයේ උසස් වීමට බලපෑවේ ඒක පුද්ගල දළ ජාතික ආදායමේ වර්ධනයක් වන අතර, එය රටක සමස්ත ආර්ථික සංවර්ධනය හෝ පොදු ජීවන තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳ විස්තීර්ණ තක්සේරුවක් නොවේ.

Fact-Checking Reveals Misleading Claims About Sri Lanka's Economic Development

Recent statements made by Deputy Minister T.B. Sarath asserting that Sri Lanka is the fastest developing country in South Asia have been categorically refuted by Fact Crescendo, a reputable news verification organization.

Their investigation highlights critical discrepancies, showing that labeling Sri Lanka as the region's rapidly developing nation is incorrect. The World Bank has never indicated that Sri Lanka holds any such status in South Asia.

Economic growth in South Asia is predominantly driven by India, which showcases the highest growth rates in the region as well as globally. While Bhutan has demonstrated stronger economic growth than Sri Lanka, it operates on a much smaller economic scale.

However, according to the World Bank’s latest classification, Sri Lanka has been upgraded to an upper-middle-income country, ranking among the top performers in the region in terms of per capita Gross National Income growth, especially projected for 2025. The projection may inadvertently lead to the erroneous conclusion that Sri Lanka is, in fact, the fastest growing country in South Asia.

The recent upgrade in Sri Lanka's classification can be attributed to an increase in per capita GNI, which, however, does not provide a comprehensive assessment of the overall economic development or general living standards within the country.
