 ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කර්මාන්ත ක්ෂේත්‍රයේ රැකියා පුරප්පාඩු ලක්ෂ හතරක් පමණ සහ රැකියා විරහිත විශාල පිරිසක් සිටියත් ඔවුන්ට අදාළ පුරප්පාඩු පිරවීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය සුදුසුකම් නොමැති බව කර්මාන්ත හා ව්‍යවසායකත්ව සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍ය සුනිල් හඳුන්නෙත්ති මහතා පවසයි.

"අපනයනය ක්ෂේත්‍රයට අවශ්‍යම ටෙක්නිකල් එක්ස්පර්ට්ස්ලා, අත්‍යාවශ්‍යම සේවාවන් සපයන අය හොයාගන්න නැහැ කියන ප්‍රශ්නය තියෙනවා. එතකොට අපිට බලන්න පුළුවන් ඒ වගේ අයට මොනවද කරන්නෙ කියලා. අපි එකපාර පිටරටින් ගේන්න කැමැත්තක් නැහැ. අපි ලංකාවේ අවශ්‍යතාව ඉස්සෙල්ලා සම්පූර්ණ කරගන්නම ඕනෙ. 

දැන් ආයතන ගණනාවක් එක්ක සාකච්ඡා කරනවා අපේ වෘත්තීය පුහුණු අධිකාරිය, වෘත්තීය පුහුණු අමාත්‍යාංශය, විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ඔක්කොමත් එක්ක ඒ අපේ ඉන්ඩස්ට්‍රීස්වලට ඕනෙ අය හදලා දෙන්න කියලා. දැන් ඔය කන්දකාඩුවල පුනරුත්ථාපනය කරන අයටත් අපි කියලා තියෙන්නෙ ඕගොල්ලොන්ගෙ කෝසස් නෙවෙයි අපිට ඕනෙ කරන ඒවා හදලා දෙන්න කියලා. 

කන්දකාඩුවල වුණත් ඇත්තටම මත්ද්‍රව්‍යවලට සම්බන්ධ වෙච්ච අය පුනරුත්ථාපනය කරලා ඒ අය කෙළින්ම සමාජයට යවනවා වෙනුවට රැකියාවකට අනුයුක්ත කරන්න පුළුවන් නම් අපිට ලොකු දෙයක් ඒක. ඒක ලොකු ප්‍රශ්නයක් නැතිනම්. 

අපි හිතුවාට පිටරට ගිය කට්ටිය වේගෙන් ආයෙ එන්නෙ නැහැනෙ. අපට ඒක ලක්ෂ 4ක් දැන් අපේ ඉන්ඩස්ට්‍රීස්වල ජොබ් වේකන්සීස් තියෙනවා. හැබැයි රැකියා විරහිතයිනුත් ඉන්නවා. ප්‍රශ්නය තියෙන්නෙ මේ දෙක මැච් වෙන්නෙ නැහැ. ඉන්න රැකියා විරහිත අය ජොබ්වලට සුදුසු නැහැ. එතකොට මේක අපි පුහුණු කරලා ගන්න ඕනෙ."

Skills Gap in Sri Lanka's Job Market Highlighted by Minister

In a stark revelation, Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunetti, has pointed out that despite a significant number of job vacancies in Sri Lanka's industrial sector, there is a lack of qualified candidates to fill these roles. With approximately 400,000 job openings existing, many individuals in search of employment do not possess the necessary qualifications.

The Minister emphasized the pressing issue faced by exporters, stating, "There is a challenge in finding the essential technical experts and service providers needed in the export sector. We need to look at what can be done about this situation. Our preference is not to rely solely on bringing people in from abroad, but rather to meet our local requirements first."

To address this skills gap, discussions are underway with various institutions, including the Vocational Training Authority, the Ministry of Vocational Training, and universities, to develop programs that cater specifically to the needs of local industries. The Minister has indicated that there is a demand for tailored courses rather than facilitating generic training for individuals.

Moreover, he highlighted the importance of rehabilitating individuals previously associated with drug-related issues, suggesting that instead of simply reintegrating them into society, efforts should be made to employ them in productive roles. "If we can secure jobs for these individuals rather than just sending them back to communities, that would be a significant achievement," he noted.

Handunetti expressed concern over the repatriation of skilled workers who have gone abroad, emphasizing that the current job vacancies—amounting to around 400,000—do not match the qualifications of those unemployed. "The challenge lies in bridging the gap between those seeking jobs and the skill sets required," he added.

The Minister made these observations during the National Assembly of Exporters held on the 26th, underscoring the urgent need for strategic vocational training to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to meet industry demands.
