22 වන ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධන පනත් කෙටුම්පත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කර හෙටට (31) සති දෙකක කාලයක් සම්පූර්ණ වන අතර, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඉදිරිපත් වී ඇති පෙත්සම් සලකා බැලීම සඳහා වන ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණ විනිශ්චය මණ්ඩලය මෙම සතිය තුළ පත් කිරීමට නියමිතව තිබේ.

ගැසට් පත්‍රයක් මගින් ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කළ මෙම සංශෝධනයට පක්ෂව සහ විපක්ෂව පසුගිය සිකුරාදා සවස් වන විට ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණය හමුවේ පෙත්සම් 27ක් ගොනු කර තිබුණි.

දේශපාලන ආරංචි මාර්ග සඳහන් කරන්නේ හෙට දිනයේදී තවත් පෙත්සම් කිහිපයක් අධිකරණය හමුවේ ඉදිරිපත් වීමට නියමිත බවයි.

අදාළ ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවට අනුකූලද යන්නත්, එය සම්මත කර ගැනීමට අවශ්‍ය පාර්ලිමේන්තු බහුතරය හෝ වෙනත් නිර්දේශ පිළිබඳවත් තීරණය කිරීම සඳහා අගවිනිසුරුවරයා විසින් මෙම විශේෂ විනිශ්චය මණ්ඩලය පත් කරනු ඇත.

විනිශ්චය මණ්ඩලය පත් කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව, අදාළ පෙත්සම් විභාග කර සති තුනක කාලයක් ඇතුළත ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණයේ නිල මතය ජනාධිපතිවරයා සහ කථානායකවරයා වෙත දැනුම් දීමට නියමිතය.

Supreme Court to Review Constitutional Amendment Bills Amidst Ongoing Legal Challenges

The proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is set to complete its two-week parliamentary review tomorrow (31), following a recent submission. The Supreme Court is expected to appoint a panel this week to consider the various petitions that have been filed regarding this amendment.

After its announcement via a Gazette notification, the amendment has already seen 27 petitions lodged at the Supreme Court by last Friday evening, both in favor of and against the proposed changes.

Political sources indicate that several additional petitions are likely to be submitted to the court tomorrow, further complicating the review process.

The Attorney General will appoint this special panel to determine the constitutionality of the amendment and whether it has garnered the necessary parliamentary majority or other recommendations for approval.

Once the panel is in place, it is anticipated that the petitions will be examined and an official opinion from the Supreme Court will be provided to the President and the Speaker within three weeks.
