 පිළිකා රෝගීන්ට ලබාදෙන අත්‍යවශ්‍ය එන්නතක් මෙරට සෞඛ්‍ය පද්ධතිය තුළ නොමැති වීම හේතුවෙන් රෝගීන් දසදහස් ගණනකගේ ජීවිත දැඩි අවදානමකට ලක්ව ඇති බව වෛද්‍ය හා සිවිල් අයිතිවාසිකම් පිළිබඳ වෛද්‍යවරුන්ගේ වෘත්තීය සමිති සන්ධානයේ සභාපති, විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා පවසයි.

පිළිකා රෝගීන්ට ලබාදෙන 'කීමෝතෙරපි' ප්‍රතිකාරයෙන් අනතුරුව, සිරුරේ ප්‍රතිශක්තිකරණය ඉහළ නැංවීමට සහ සුදු රුධිරාණු මට්ටම පවත්වා ගැනීමට ලබාදෙන Neup, Neupogen, GCadF සහ Filgastrin යන නම්වලින් හඳුන්වන විශේෂ එන්නත් මෙලෙස හිඟ වී පවතී.

මෙම ඖෂධය මසකට රෝගීන් 25,000කට ආසන්න පිරිසකට අවශ්‍ය වන අතර, පවතින හිඟය හේතුවෙන් ඉදිරි මාස තුනක කාලය තුළ රෝගීන් 75,000ක් පමණ මරණීය අවදානමකට මුහුණ දෙන බව වෛද්‍යවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.

මෙම අර්බුදයට මූලික හේතුව වී ඇත්තේ රාජ්‍ය ආයතන අතර පවතින සම්බන්ධීකරණ දෝෂයකි. ඖෂධ නියාමන අධිකාරිය විසින් අදාළ ඖෂධයේ පිටත ඇලවිය යුතු ලේබලය සම්බන්ධයෙන් උපදෙස් ලබා දී තිබියදී, රාජ්‍ය ඖෂධ සංස්ථාව එම ලේබලය නොමැතිව ඖෂධ ගෙන්වීමට අදාළ සමාගමට අනුමැතිය ලබා දී ඇත.

මේ හේතුවෙන් වෛද්‍ය සැපයුම් ඒකකය එම ඖෂධ තොග භාර ගැනීම ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කර තිබේ. හිටපු සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය කෙහෙළිය රඹුක්වැල්ල මහතාගේ පාලන සමයේ සිදුවූ ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොර ඉමියුනොග්ලොබීන් ආනයනය කිරීමේ සිද්ධියෙන් පසු, වෛද්‍ය සැපයුම් ඒකකය ඖෂධ භාර ගැනීමේදී දැඩි සුපරීක්ෂාකාරී පිළිවෙතක් අනුගමනය කිරීම මෙයට හේතුවයි.

විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළේ, නිසි ප්‍රසම්පාදන ක්‍රමවේද යටතේ ගෙන්වන ලද මෙම ඖෂධ ලක්ෂයකට ආසන්න ප්‍රමාණයක් මේ වන විටත් ගබඩාවල පවතින බවයි.

යම් හෙයකින් මෙම ඖෂධ තොගය යළි හරවා යවා අලුතින් ගෙන්වීමට කටයුතු කළහොත් ඒ සඳහා අවම වශයෙන් මාස තුනක කාලයක් ගතවන බවත්, එතෙක් රෝගීන්ගේ ජීවිත අනතුරේ පවතින බවත් ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

සාමාන්‍යයෙන් රුපියල් 900ක් පමණ වන මෙම එන්නතක්, පවතින හිඟය හේතුවෙන් කළු කඩය තුළ රුපියල් 25,000කට අධික මුදලකට අලෙවි වන බවත්, එම මුදලට පවා ඖෂධ සොයා ගැනීමට නොමැති බවත් වාර්තා වේ. රජයේ රෝහල්වල මෙන්ම පෞද්ගලික අංශයේද මේ වන විට පිළිකා ඖෂධ වර්ග රැසක හිඟයක් පවතින බව වෛද්‍යවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.

මෙම බරපතළ තත්ත්වය සැලකිල්ලට ගෙන සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයා වහාම මැදිහත් විය යුතු බවත්, සෞඛ්‍ය අමාත්‍යාංශයේ වගකිවයුතු නිලධාරීන්, පිළිකා රෝග විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍යවරුන් සහ රුධිර රෝග පිළිබඳ විශේෂඥයන් එක්ව සාකච්ඡා කර මෙම ගැටලුවට කඩිනම් විසඳුමක් ලබා දිය යුතු බවත් විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය චමල් සංජීව මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.

Shortage of Essential Cancer Treatments Puts Thousands of Lives at Risk in Sri Lanka

The absence of vital medications for cancer patients within Sri Lanka's healthcare system has placed the lives of thousands in jeopardy, emphasized Dr. Chamal Sanjeeva, president of the Medical and Civil Rights Professionals Association. He voiced serious concerns over the critical shortage of specific medications essential for supporting the immune system and maintaining white blood cell levels following chemotherapy treatments.

Medications such as Neup, Neupogen, GCadF, and Filgastrin are urgently needed for approximately 25,000 patients each month. However, due to the ongoing shortage, an estimated 75,000 patients may face life-threatening risks in the coming three months, Dr. Sanjeeva warned.

The root cause of this crisis lies in a failure of coordination among state institutions. While the National Medicines Regulatory Authority provided guidelines regarding the labeling of these essential drugs, the State Pharmaceutical Corporation granted approval to a company to import the medication without the required labels.

This misstep has led the Medical Supply Unit to refuse the acceptance of these medication shipments. Following a previous incident during former Health Minister Kehiliya Rambukwella's administration regarding the import of substandard immunoglobulins, the unit has adopted stringent inspection procedures for incoming drugs.

Dr. Sanjeeva further revealed that a significant stock of these medications, ordered under proper procurement procedures, is currently available in warehouses. However, should efforts be made to redirect these supplies for a new order, it would take a minimum of three months for the re-importation process to complete. Until then, patients' lives remain in peril, he stressed.

Typically priced around 900 rupees, these medications are being sold on the black market for over 25,000 rupees due to the scarcity, with reports indicating that even at that price, these essential drugs are virtually impossible to find. A similar shortage of cancer treatment drugs is evident in both government hospitals and the private sector, according to medical professionals.

In light of this dire situation, Dr. Sanjeeva urged immediate intervention from the Health Minister. He called for responsible officials from the Health Ministry, along with cancer specialists and hematologists, to convene and formulate urgent solutions to this pressing issue.
