වත්මන් රජයට රට තබා අවම වශයෙන් බන්ධනාගාරයක්වත් පාලනය කර ගැනීමට නොහැකි වී ඇති බව සමගි ජන බලවේගයේ මහලේකම්, පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී රංජිත් මද්දුම බණ්ඩාර මහතා චෝදනා කරයි.

මහර බන්ධනාගාරයේ ඇති වූ නොසන්සුන්කාරී තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වමින් ඒ මහතා මේ බව සඳහන් කළේය.

ජනාධිපතිවරයා විපක්ෂයේ සිටියදී බන්ධනාගාර රැඳවියන්ගේ වගකීම රජය සතු බව ප්‍රකාශ කළ ද, අද වන විට එම වගකීම ඉටු කිරීමට රජය අසමත් වී ඇති බව මන්ත්‍රීවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

මීට පෙර මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේදී රැඳවියන් 30කට අධික පිරිසක් මියගිය බවත්, ඊයේ මහර බන්ධනාගාරයේදී ද රැඳවියෙකු මියගොස් විශාල පිරිසක් තුවාල ලබා ඇති බවත් සිහිපත් කළ ඔහු, මෙම අසාර්ථකත්වය හමුවේ විෂයභාර අමාත්‍යවරයා වහාම ධුරයෙන් ඉල්ලා අස්විය යුතු බව අවධාරණය කළේය.

බන්ධනාගාරවල පවතින අධික තදබදය පිළිබඳව ද අදහස් දැක්වූ මද්දුම බණ්ඩාර මහතා, "බන්ධනාගාරවල රැඳවිය හැකි ධාරිතාව 10,800ක් පමණ වුවත්, අද වන විට 43,000කට අධික පිරිසක් එහි රඳවා සිටිනවා. මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය පාලනය කරනවා යැයි පවසමින් රජය සිදු කරන්නේ මිනිසුන් අල්ලා හිරේ දැමීම පමණයි. නමුත් මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය උවදුර තවමත් රට තුළ බරපතල ලෙස පවතිනවා," යැයි පැවසීය.

රටේ සංවර්ධනය සහ ආර්ථිකය පිළිබඳව රජය පවසන කරුණු ද මන්ත්‍රීවරයා මෙහිදී විවේචනයට ලක් කළේය. රජය අලුතින් කිසිදු කර්මාන්ත ශාලාවක් හෝ වැවක් ඉදිකර නොමැති බවත්, ඔවුන් දන්නේ ජනතාව මත බදු බර පැටවීමට පමණක් බවත් ඔහු චෝදනා කළේය.

රට මේ වන විට අරාජික තත්ත්වයකට පත්ව ඇති බවත්, තැන තැන වෙඩි තැබීම් සහ ප්‍රචණ්ඩ ක්‍රියා ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බවත් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

විනිසුරුවන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම වයස දීර්ඝ කිරීමට රජය ගෙන ඇති තීරණය පිළිබඳව ද අදහස් දක්වමින් මන්ත්‍රීවරයා කියා සිටියේ, ඊට නීතිඥ සංගමය, විනිසුරුවරුන් මෙන්ම සමස්ත විපක්ෂයම විරුද්ධ බවයි.

රජය ජනවරමට පිටුපා කටයුතු කරමින් සිටින බවත්, හොරුන් අල්ලනවා වෙනුවට විපක්ෂයේ සිටින පිරිස්වලට දඬුවම් කිරීමට උත්සාහ කරන බවත් ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

Government Criticized for Failing Prison Management Amid Rising Violence

In a stark indictment of the current administration, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and a Member of Parliament, raised concerns about the government's inability to manage even a single prison in Sri Lanka. His comments came in light of growing unrest within Mahara Prison, which he described as alarming.

Reflecting on the government's responsibilities, Bandara pointed out that while the President had previously stated that the accountability for the welfare of inmates rests with the government, it has failed to fulfill this obligation. Recent events, including the deaths of over 30 inmates at the Meegamuwa Prison and another deadly incident at Mahara where a prisoner died and many were injured, underscore this failure, he emphasized.

Amid this backdrop of crisis, he called for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Prison Reforms, citing that such a serious failure warrants accountability at the highest levels of government.

Discussing the overcrowding issue, Bandara highlighted that while prisons are designed to hold approximately 10,800 inmates, they currently accommodate over 43,000 individuals. He criticized the government's approach, stating that despite its claims of controlling drugs, it is primarily focused on arresting individuals and overcrowding prisons, while the drug issue remains rampant throughout the country.

The Minister also scrutinized claims regarding national development and economic progress, asserting that the government has not established any new factories or irrigation projects, opting instead to tax the public excessively.

He described the current situation as chaotic, with increased incidents of shooting and violence reported across various regions. Drawing attention to the government’s decision to raise the retirement age for judges, he remarked that this move has met resistance not only from legal associations but also from the entire opposition.

Finally, Bandara expressed a strong sentiment that the government is operating in contradiction to the public's interest, focusing more on punishing opposition members than implementing solutions that benefit the populace.
