ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහනෙන් මෙරට පාසල් සිසුන්ට දිවා ආහාර..

ග්‍රාමීය සංවර්ධන, සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ සහ ප්‍රජා සවිබල ගැන්වීමේ අමාත්‍යාංශය සහ එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහන (WFP) ඒකාබද්ධව ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන ගෙවතු වගා පාසල් පෝෂණ වැඩසටහන (Home-Grown School Feeding Programme - HGSF) යටතේ නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ තෝරාගත් ප්‍රතිලාභීන් වෙත කෘෂිකාර්මික උපකරණ භාරදීමේ උත්සවය ග්‍රාමීය සංවර්ධන, සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ හා ප්‍රජා සවිබලගැන්වීම් අමාත්‍ය ආචාර්ය උපාලි පන්නිල මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

මෙම වැඩසටහන යටතේ පාසල් දරුවන්ගේ පෝෂණ අවශ්‍යතා සපුරාලීමටත්, ගොවි ජනතාවගේ කෘෂිකාර්මික කටයුතු කාර්යක්ෂම කිරීමටත් අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. 

එමෙන්ම දේශීය ආහාර නිෂ්පාදනය ඉහළ නැංවීමටත්, ජීවනෝපාය හා ළමා පෝෂණය අතර සබඳතාව ශක්තිමත් කිරීමටත් මෙහිදී අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.

ග්‍රාමීය සංවර්ධන, සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ සහ ප්‍රජා සවිබලගැන්වීමේ අමාත්‍යාංශය යටතේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහනේ සහයෝගීතාව සඳහා වූ හවුල්කාරිත්ව ලේකම් කාර්යාලය (PSWFPC) මඟින් මෙම සමස්ත ක්‍රියාවලිය සම්බන්ධීකරණය කරනු ලබයි.

එහිදී උත්සව සභාව ඇමතූ අමාත්‍ය ආචාර්ය උපාලි පන්නිල මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහන (WFP) යනු 1968 වසරේ සිට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පෝෂණ කටයුතු නංවාලීමට, විශේෂ ආපදා අවස්ථාවලදී සහාය වීමට සහ රටේ සංවර්ධනය වෙනුවෙන් සැලකිය යුතු දායකත්වයක් ලබා දුන් ආයතනයක් බවත්, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ක්‍රියාත්මක වන පාසල් පෝෂණ වැඩසටහන සඳහා ද සුවිශේෂී දායකත්වයක් සපයන බවත්ය.

එමෙන්ම, මෙම වැඩසටහන යටතේ මේ වන විට මෙරට පාසල් 2,013ක සිසුන් තුන් ලක්ෂයකට අධික පිරිසකට පෝෂ්‍යදායී ආහාර වේලක් ලබා දීමට සහාය හිමි වන බව අවධාරණය කළ අමාත්‍යවරයා, දේශීය ගොවිතැන් සහ සත්ත්ව පාලන කටයුතුවල නිරත වන පිරිස් සවිබල ගැන්වීම ද අපේක්ෂා කරන බව සඳහන් කළේය.

නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පාසල් 400ක මෙම වැඩසටහන ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන අතර, එමඟින් පාසල් දරුවන්ගේ මන්දපෝෂණය දුරු කිරීම අරමුණු කර ඇති බවද අමාත්‍යවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. 

මෙම වැඩසටහන හුදෙක් උපකරණ ලබා දෙන තවත් එක් සාමාන්‍ය ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ලෙස නොසලකා, තම දරුවන්ගේ අධ්‍යාපනය, පෝෂණය මෙන්ම ජීවන තත්ත්වය උසස් කර ගැනීමටත්, නව අමතර ආදායම් මාර්ගයක් එක් කර ගැනීමටත් ලැබුණු කදිම ආරම්භයක් ලෙස භාවිත කරන ලෙස ප්‍රතිලාභීන්ගෙන් අමාත්‍යවරයා ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට අධ්‍යාපන හා උසස් අධ්‍යාපන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය මධුර සෙනෙවිරත්න මහතා, නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපති, පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී මංජුල සුරවීර ආරච්චි මහතා, ලෝක ආහාර වැඩසටහනේ මෙරට නියෝජිත සහ මෙරට අධ්‍යක්ෂ පිලිප් වෝඩ් මහතා, සමාජ ආරක්ෂණ හා ප්‍රජා සවිබලගැන්වීම් අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් සම්පත් මන්ත්‍රිනායක මහතා, නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් තුෂාරි තෙන්නකෝන් මහත්මිය, රාජ්‍ය නිලධාරීන්, ප්‍රතිලාභීන් ඇතුළු පිරිසක් එක්ව සිටියහ.

Distribution of Agricultural Equipment to Beneficiaries Under Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Nuwara Eliya

The Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), hosted a ceremony to distribute agricultural equipment to selected beneficiaries in the Nuwara Eliya district. The event, led by Minister Dr. Upali Pannila, took place at the District Secretary's office.

The initiative aims to address the nutritional needs of school children while enhancing the agricultural activities of local farmers.

Additionally, the programme is designed to boost local food production and strengthen the link between livelihoods and child nutrition.

The entire process is coordinated by the Partnership Secretariat for World Food Programme (PSWFPC), under the Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment.

During the event, Minister Dr. Upali Pannila highlighted that the WFP has played a vital role in enhancing nutritional projects in Sri Lanka since 1968, particularly in times of crisis, and continues to significantly contribute to the school feeding programme in the country.

He noted that currently, the programme supports over 300,000 students across 2,013 schools in Sri Lanka with nutritious meals and aims to empower those engaged in local farming and livestock management.

As this initiative is being implemented across 400 schools in the Nuwara Eliya district, the minister emphasized its goal of alleviating child malnutrition.

Moreover, he urged beneficiaries to view this programme not merely as a project providing equipment but as an excellent opportunity to enhance their children's education, nutrition, and overall quality of life while creating new income avenues.

The event was attended by various dignitaries including the Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Madhura Senavirathne, the Chairperson of the Nuwara Eliya District Coordination Committee, Parliamentarian Manjula Surawira Arachchi, WFP Country Representative and Director Philip Ward, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Security and Community Empowerment, Sampath Mantriyawaka, District Secretary Thushari Thennakoon, along with other officials and beneficiaries.
