US Military Faces Missile Shortage Amid Ongoing Conflict with Iran

The ongoing conflict with Iran, stretching for five months, has resulted in significant depletion of high-precision long-range missile stockpiles held by the US military, as reported by Reuters. This alarming situation raises serious questions about the readiness of American forces for potential future conflicts.

According to internal sources, the US military has exhausted its complete inventory of surface-to-surface missiles, including the ATACMS and PrSM. Additionally, nearly a hundred Tomahawk cruise missiles have been utilized since the onset of hostilities.

Not only have offensive missile stocks dwindled, but defensive systems like the Patriot and THAAD have also seen rapidly declining inventories. Recent reports suggest that approximately 65% of Patriot missiles have been expended between February and July, while the THAAD missile stockpile has decreased by nearly 38% compared to the beginning of the conflict.

This missile shortfall poses a critical challenge for President Donald Trump, who may need to rely on riskier aerial strike operations against Iran. Analysts warn that this shortage could also hinder America’s capacity to engage in potential conflicts with formidable adversaries such as Russia or China.

In response to these concerns, President Trump dismissed the reports, asserting that the US missile stockpiles remain at an unprecedented high compared to any other nation. He highlighted that American defense companies are currently ramping up missile production to documented levels.

Pentagon spokesperson Shawn Parnell reiterated that the US military stands as the most formidable armed force globally, equipped with the necessary resources to initiate operations at any moment.

The conflict, which began in February alongside Israel, was initially believed to be a short-term skirmish. However, as the war drags on, the issue of weaponry shortage has become increasingly prominent.

Meanwhile, intense political debate has emerged within the US regarding the president's authority to engage in military actions against Iran without Congressional approval.
