ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනයේ පාලනය සඳහා රජය විසින් අතුරු පාලන කමිටුවක් පත් කර තිබීම හේතුවෙන්, 2027 වසරේ මෙරටදී පැවැත්වීමට නියමිතව තිබූ  Women’s Champions Trophy ක්‍රිකට් තරගාවලියේ සත්කාරකත්වය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට අහිමි වී ඇති බව The Sunday Times පුවත්පත වාර්තා කරයි.

ජාත්‍යන්තර ක්‍රිකට් කවුන්සිලය දේශපාලන මැදිහත්වීම් මත පත් කරන ලද පාලක මණ්ඩල පිළි නොගන්නා ප්‍රතිපත්තිය මත මෙම තීරණය ගෙන ඇත.

දැනට ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය පාලනය කරනු ලබන්නේ රජය විසින් පත් කරන ලද 'පරිවර්තන කමිටුව' (Transformation Committee) මගිනි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් පරිවර්තන කමිටුවේ ලේකම් ප්‍රකාශ් ශාෆ්ටර් මහතා මෙම පුවත තහවුරු කර ඇති අතර, තරගාවලිය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවෙන් ඉවතට ගෙන ඇති බවත් නව සත්කාරක රට ඉදිරි ICC රැස්වීමේදී තීරණය කරනු ඇති බවත් ඔහු පවසා තිබේ.

මෙම තීරණය හේතුවෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනයට මෙන්ම මෙරට සංචාරක ක්ෂේත්‍රයටද දැවැන්ත මූල්‍ය අලාභයක් සිදුවනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.

කණ්ඩායම් 6ක් සහභාගී වන මෙම තරගාවලිය සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා කාන්තා කණ්ඩායමට හිමිව තිබූ අවස්ථාවද මේ වන විට අවදානමකට ලක්ව ඇත. ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දැනට ලෝක ශ්‍රේණිගත කිරීම්වල 6 වැනි ස්ථානයේ පසුවන අතර, නව සත්කාරක රට පළමු කණ්ඩායම් 5න් පිටත රටක් වුවහොත් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට තරගාවලියට සහභාගී වීමේ අවස්ථාව පවා අහිමි විය හැකිය.

මීට පෙර 2024 වසරේ පැවැත්වීමට තිබූ 19න් පහළ ලෝක කුසලාන තරගාවලියේ සත්කාරකත්වයද මෙවැනිම දේශපාලන මැදිහත්වීම් හේතුවෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට අහිමි වූ අතර පසුව එය දකුණු අප්‍රිකාවට මාරු කෙරිණි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රිකට් ආයතනය සඳහා නව ව්‍යවස්ථාවක් සකස් කර මැතිවරණයක් පවත්වන ලෙස ICCය දිගින් දිගටම බලපෑම් කරමින් සිටින බවද වාර්තාවේ වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් වේ.

Sri Lanka Loses Hosting Rights for Women's Champions Trophy Cricket Tournament in 2027

Due to the government's appointment of an interim management committee for Sri Lanka Cricket, the country has lost its hosting rights for the Women's Champions Trophy scheduled for 2027, reports The Sunday Times.

This decision was made in accordance with the International Cricket Council's (ICC) policy that does not recognize governing bodies established through political interference.

Currently, Sri Lanka Cricket is being managed by a 'Transformation Committee' appointed by the government.

Prakash Shafter, the secretary of the Transformation Committee, confirmed this news and noted that the tournament has been taken away from Sri Lanka. He mentioned that the decision on a new host country will be made at the upcoming ICC meeting.

The implications of this decision are significant, not only for Sri Lanka Cricket but also for the tourism sector in the country, which is expected to face substantial financial losses.

The opportunity for the Sri Lankan women's cricket team to participate has also come under threat. Sri Lanka currently stands sixth in the world rankings, and if the new host country is from outside the top five, Sri Lanka could miss the chance to compete in the tournament altogether.

Previously, Sri Lanka also lost its hosting rights for the ICC Under-19 World Cup scheduled for 2024 due to similar political interference, which was subsequently relocated to South Africa.

Additionally, the report highlights that the ICC continues to pressure Sri Lanka Cricket to establish a new constitution and conduct elections to restore governance.
