රජයේ විශ්වවිද්‍යාල පද්ධතිය තුළ පවතින බරපතළ ගැටලු කිහිපයකට විසඳුම් ඉල්ලා අද (09) දිනයේ දීපව්‍යාප්ත එක්දින වැඩවර්ජනයක නිරත වීමට විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ආචාර්යවරුන් තීරණය කර තිබේ.

විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ආචාර්ය සමිති සම්මේලනයේ ලේකම්, කථිකාචාර්ය චාරුදත්ත ඉලංගසිංහ මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, පවතින අර්බුද සම්බන්ධයෙන් රජය මෙතෙක් නිසි විසඳුම් ලබා නොදීම හේතුවෙන් මෙම වෘත්තීය සමිති ක්‍රියාමාර්ගය දැඩි කිරීමට තීරණය කළ බවයි.

රජය විසින් අලුතින් විශ්වවිද්‍යාල 50ක් ආරම්භ කිරීමට ගෙන ඇති යෝජනාව පිළිබඳව ද ලේකම්වරයා මෙහිදී අදහස් දැක්වීය.

අධ්‍යාපනය පුළුල් කිරීම සාධනීය කරුණක් වුවද, දැනට පවතින රාජ්‍ය විශ්වවිද්‍යාල 17 පවා පවත්වාගෙන යාමට නොහැකි තත්ත්වයක් තුළ නව විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ඇති කිරීම ප්‍රායෝගික නොවන බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

පවතින විශ්වවිද්‍යාලවල ගුණාත්මකභාවය ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීමට ප්‍රමුඛතාව ලබා දිය යුතු බව ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

පසුගිය සතියේ දහවල් විවේක කාලය තුළ විරෝධතා ව්‍යාපාරවල නිරත වූ බවත්, රජයේ නිහඬ පිළිවෙත හමුවේ හෙට දිනයේ දීපව්‍යාප්තව වැඩවර්ජනය කරමින් සිය විරෝධය පළ කරන බවත් චාරුදත්ත ඉලංගසිංහ මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

University Lecturers in Sri Lanka to Stage Nationwide Strike Over Ongoing Issues

University lecturers across Sri Lanka have decided to participate in a widespread one-day strike today, seeking resolutions to several pressing issues plaguing the government university system.

The Secretary of the University Teachers' Association, Professor Charudatha Ilangasinghe, emphasized that the government's failure to provide appropriate solutions to the ongoing crisis has compelled the professional unions to escalate their actions.

He also commented on the government's recent proposal to establish 50 new universities. While expanding access to education is a commendable goal, Ilangasinghe pointed out that creating new institutions is unrealistic given the current inability to sustain even the existing 17 state universities.

He underlined the necessity of prioritizing the quality of education in the existing universities, rather than diverting attention to the establishment of new ones.

Ilangaasinghe further noted that protests had been ongoing during midday breaks last week, and in light of the government's silence on the matter, the lecturers are set to express their dissent through a coordinated nationwide strike tomorrow.
