American President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran's proposition for a temporary seven-day ceasefire, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. Following the upcoming midterm elections in November, Trump is reportedly preparing to resume airstrikes against Iran.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, the newspaper noted that Iran had suggested various measures, including the removal of existing naval blockades targeting its ports and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for maritime navigation. Additionally, proposals for initiating nuclear negotiations and easing restrictions on its oil exports were also part of Iran's approach.
While Trump has publicly stated that Iran seeks relief in exchange for compliance with nuclear program restrictions after the November elections, it is believed he privately doubts Iran's willingness to adhere to U.S. conditions. Consequently, there is a robust likelihood that large-scale bombing operations could be reignited post-election, as Trump has communicated to his officials.
Reports indicate that the U.S. has informed intermediary countries, including Qatar, that there is no intention to lift the naval blockades imposed in the Iranian maritime zone.
