දිවයිනේ ප්‍රදේශ කිහිපයකට ඇදහැලෙන ධාරානිපාත වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් මහවැලි සහ කළු යන ගංගා ද්‍රෝණිවල ඉහළ ධාරා ප්‍රදේශයන්හි ජල මට්ටම ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ යමින් පවතින බවත්, ඒ ආශ්‍රිත ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාස කිහිපයක පහත්බිම් ප්‍රදේශවල සුළු ගංවතුර තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිවීමේ දැඩි අවදානමක් මතුව ඇති බවත් වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව අනතුරු අඟවයි.

වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ජලවිද්‍යා හා ආපදා කළමනාකරණ අංශය විසින් මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් 'ඇම්බර්' (Amber) වර්ණයෙන් යුත් අංක 01 දරන විශේෂ පූර්ව අනතුරු ඇඟවීමේ නිවේදන දෙකක් නිකුත් කර ඇති අතර, ඒවා ඉදිරි පැය 24 පුරා ක්‍රියාත්මක වේ.

කළු ගඟෙහි කුඩා ගඟ උප ද්‍රෝණියේ ඉහළ ධාරා ප්‍රදේශවලට ඇදහැලෙන අධික වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් බුලත්සිංහල, මදුරාවල සහ පාලින්දනුවර යන ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසවල කුඩා ගඟ සහ මගුර ගඟ පිටාර තැන්නට අයත් පහත්බිම් ප්‍රදේශවලට සුළු ගංවතුර තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිවිය හැකි බව වාර්තා වේ. මේ හේතුවෙන් එම පහත්බිම් හරහා වැටී ඇති අතුරු මාර්ග රැසක් ජලයෙන් යටවීමේ දැඩි අවදානමක් පවතී.

මහවැලි ගංගාවේ ඉහළ ධාරා ප්‍රදේශවලට පසුගිය පැය කිහිපය තුළ ලැබුණු දැඩි වර්ෂාපතනය හේතුවෙන් පස්බාගේ කෝරලය ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසයේ මහවැලි ගඟ අවට පිහිටි පහත්බිම් ප්‍රදේශ ජලයෙන් යටවීමේ අවදානමක් හටගෙන තිබේ.

මෙම තත්ත්වය සැලකිල්ලට ගනිමින් අදාළ ප්‍රදේශවල ගංගා දෙපස සහ පහත්බිම් ආශ්‍රිතව පදිංචි මහජනතාව නිරන්තර විමසිල්ලෙන් පසුවිය යුතු බවත්, අනතුරුදායක මාර්ග භාවිත කරන රියදුරන් දැඩි සැලකිල්ලකින් යුතුව රිය ධාවනය කළ යුතු බවත් වාරිමාර්ග අධ්‍යක්ෂ  ඉංජිනේරු එල්. එස්. සූරියබණ්ඩාර මහතා අවධාරණය කරයි.

එමෙන්ම ඇතිවිය හැකි ගංවතුර ආපදා තත්ත්වයන්ගෙන් මහජන ජීවිත හා දේපළ ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සඳහා කඩිනමින් අවශ්‍ය පූර්ව ආරක්ෂක පියවර ගන්නා ලෙස ප්‍රදේශයේ ආපදා කළමනාකරණ අංශ වෙතින් ඉල්ලා තිබේ.

Heavy Rains Raise Flood Risks in Multiple Districts of Sri Lanka

Significant downpours across several regions of the island have caused rising water levels in the Mahaweli and Kelani rivers. The Department of Irrigation has issued warnings about an increased risk of minor flooding in low-lying areas under several divisional secretariats as a result of these weather conditions.

The water resources and disaster management sectors of the Department of Irrigation have released two special advisory notices categorized as 'Amber', marking their validity for the next 24 hours.

Due to heavy rain impacting the upper reaches of small tributaries in the Kelani River basin, reports indicate that areas within the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara divisional secretariats may experience minor flooding conditions. Consequently, numerous alternative routes in those low-lying areas are at a severe risk of inundation.

The recent intense rainfall in the upper sections of the Mahaweli River has posed a threat of flooding to low-lying regions surrounding the river in the Pasbage Korala divisional secretariat.

In light of these developments, the public residing along the riverbanks and low-lying areas in the affected regions have been urged to remain vigilant. L.S. Suriya Bandara, Director of the Department of Irrigation, underscored the necessity for drivers using potentially hazardous routes to exercise utmost caution while navigating.

The disaster management authorities also implore residents to take necessary precautionary measures swiftly to safeguard lives and property against possible flooding conditions.
