2019 වසරේදී ඥානසාර හිමියන් වෙත එවක ජනාධිපති මෛත්‍රීපාල සිරිසේන මහතා විසින් ලබාදුන් විශේෂ ජනාධිපති සමාව බලරහිත සහ අත්තනෝමතික තීරණයක් බවට තීන්දු කළ ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණය, එමගින් මහජන විශ්වාසය සහ ස්වාභාවික යුක්තියේ මූලධර්ම උල්ලංඝනය වී ඇති බවට පසුගියදා තීන්දු කළේය.

Disappearance of Buddhist Leader Following Supreme Court Ruling

Reports indicate that Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero, the Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organization, has gone missing after the Supreme Court annulled the presidential pardon he received in 2019, according to the Sunday Island newspaper.

Authorities are reportedly taking steps to facilitate his re-arrest to serve out the remaining portion of his six-year sentence. Prison officials have already visited his monastery in Rajagiriya, located in Nawala, to execute this mandate.

However, monks at the monastery have informed the prison officials that they are unaware of Gnanasara Thero's current whereabouts.

In 2019, then-President Maithripala Sirisena granted a special presidential pardon to Gnanasara Thero, which was deemed an arbitrary decision that undermined public trust and the principles of natural justice by the Supreme Court in a recent ruling.

Facing charges of contempt of court, he was initially sentenced to six years in prison. After serving approximately nine months of his sentence, he was granted pardon and released in May 2019. Following the Supreme Court's recent ruling, he is now required to comply with legal and prison regulations to serve the remainder of his sentence.
