වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව යටතේ ඇති ප්‍රධාන ජලාශ 74 ක සමස්ත ජල ධාරිතාව සියයට තිස් හතරක් දක්වා පමණ පහළ මට්ටමක ඇති බව ජල විද්‍යා හා ආපදා කළමනාකරණ වාරිමාර්ග අධ්‍යක්ෂ ඉංජිනේරු සූරියබණ්ඩාර මහතා පවසයි.

පසුගිය පැය 24 සහ 48ක කාලය තුළ බස්නාහිර, වයඹ, සබරගමුව පළාත් සහ මාතර, ගාල්ල, මහනුවර, නුවරඑළිය, බදුල්ල, අම්පාර, මඩකලපුව සහ මොනරාගල යන දිස්ත්‍රික්කවල ඇතැම් ප්‍රදේශවලට වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබී ඇති බව ඒ් මහතා පවසයි. ඇතැම් ප්‍රදේශවල වර්ෂාවේ යම් වැඩිවීමක් දක්නට ලැබුණු අතර, ඊයේ වැඩිම වර්ෂාපතනය ලෙස මිලිමීටර් 40ක පමණ අගයක් ලැබී ඇත්තේ බදුල්ලටය. එමෙන්ම අම්පාර සහ මඩකලපුව දිස්ත්‍රික්කවල ස්ථාන රැසකට මිලිමීටර් 25ත් 30ත් අතර වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබී ඇත.

වියළි කලාපයේ, විශේෂයෙන් මාදුරුඔය සහ ඒ් අවට තෙත් කලාපීය ප්‍රදේශවලට පසුගිය දිනවල මිලිමීටර් 100ක පමණ තද වැසි ලැබුණු බව කියන සූරියබණ්ඩාර මහතා, .මෙම වර්ෂාපතනයත් සමඟ ප්‍රධාන ගංගාවල ජල මට්ටම්වල සැලකිය යුතු ඉහළ යාමක් වාර්තා වී නොමැති බව කියයි.

කාලගුණ විද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ පුරෝකථනවලට අනුව අද දිනයේදීද ඌව සහ නැගෙනහිර පළාත්වලට වර්ෂාව ලැබෙනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. එසේම ඉදිරි මහ කන්නය සඳහා ඔක්තෝබර් සහ නොවැම්බර් මාසවලදී වැඩි වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබෙනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කරන බවද ඉංජිනේරු සූරියබණ්ඩාර මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.

Water Levels Drop at Major Reservoirs Amid Recent Rainfall

According to Engineer Suriyabandara, the Director of Water Science and Disaster Management under the Irrigation Department, the total water capacity of 74 major reservoirs has dropped to approximately 34%. This decline highlights concerns over water availability as the country transitions toward the dry season.

In the past 24 to 48 hours, rainfall has been recorded across several regions, including the Western, North Western, and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in districts such as Matara, Galle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ampara, Matale, and Monaragala. Some areas experienced a notable increase in precipitation, with Badulla receiving around 40 millimeters, the highest amount reported yesterday. Additionally, various locations in the Ampara and Matale districts recorded between 25 to 30 millimeters of rainfall.

Suriyabandara noted that the dry zone, particularly around the Maduru Oya and adjacent wetlands, has experienced heavy rains of approximately 100 millimeters in recent days. Despite this rainfall, there has been no significant rise in water levels of the major rivers.

The Meteorological Department forecasts rain today in the Uva and Eastern Provinces, along with expectations for increased precipitation during the upcoming Maha season in October and November, as stated by Engineer Suriyabandara.
