බගවන්තලාව පොලිස් වසමට අයත් කැම්පියන් නගරයේ සහ කැම්පියන් වතුයායේ පහළ කොටසට පානීය ජලය රැගෙන යන ප්රධාන ජල නළ පද්ධතිය (27) දින රාත්රියේ ස්ථාන කිහිපයකින් කඩා විනාශ කල තරුණයන් දෙදෙනෙකු බගවන්තලාව පොලිසිය විසින් (27) දින රාත්රි යේ සැකපිට අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන ඇත.
කැම්පියන් වතුයායේ ඉහළ ජල පෝෂක ප්රදේශයේ සිට තේ වතුයාය හරහා කැම්පියන් නගරයට ඉහළින් ඉදි කර ඇති ජල ටැංකියකට ජල නළ යොදා ජලය එක් රැස් කර එම ජලය කැම්පියන් නගරයට සහ කැම්පියන් වතුයායේ පහළ කොටසේ වතු නිවාසවලට පානීය ජලය ලබා දීම සිදු කරනු ලබයි.
සැකකරුවන් දෙදෙනා (27) රාත්රියේ එම ජල නළ පද්ධතිය කඩා විනාශ කර දැමීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් කැම්පියන් නගරයේ වෙළදුන් විසින් බගවන්තලාව පොලිසිය වෙත කරන ලද පැමිණිල්ලක් මත එම වතුයායේම පදිංචි සැකකරුවන් දෙදෙනාව අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන ඇත.
සැකකරුවන් දෙදෙනා කඩා විනාශ කර දමා තිබූ ජලනළ ප්රදේශවාසීන් සහ බගවන්තලාව පොලිසිය එක්ව (28) දින සොයා ගත් අතර, පවත්නා තත්වය මත කැම්පියන් නගරයේ ව්යාපාරික ප්රජාව සහ කැම්පියන් වතුයායේ පහළ කොටසේ පදිංචි වතුකම්කරු පවුල් 225ක් පමණ දැඩි ලෙස පීඩාවට පත් වී ඇත.
එයට විරෝධය පාමින් කැම්පියන් නගරයේ ව්යාපාරිකයන් සිය වෙළදසැල් වසා දමා විරෝධය දැක්වූ අතර, අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් සැකකරුවන් දෙදෙනා හැටන් මහේස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණය වෙත ඉදිරිපත් කර උපරිම දඩුවම් ලබා දෙන ලෙසයි පානීය ජලය නොමැතිව පීඩාවට පත් වී සිටින කැම්පියන් නගරයේ ව්යාපාරික ප්රජාව සහ සහ කැම්පියන් වතුයායේ පහළ කොටසේ පදිංචි වතුකම්කරු ප්රජාව කියා සිටියේ.

Two Arrested for Vandalizing Water Supply System in Bagawantalawa
In a troubling incident that unfolded on the night of the 27th, two young men were apprehended by the Bagawantalawa police for damaging the primary water supply system servicing the Kampiyan town and nearby plantations. This act of vandalism threatened the provision of drinking water to local residents.
The water supply system, which channels water from an elevated water tank situated above the tea plantations down to Kampiyan, plays a critical role in supplying drinking water to households in the area. It was reported that the suspects tampered with the system specifically designed to deliver water from the tank to various drinking points in Kampiyan and surrounding plantation homes.
The police intervention came after local merchants filed a complaint regarding the destruction of the water pipe system on the same night. The identified suspects, both residents of the area, were swiftly taken into custody based on the information provided by community members.
Following their arrest, a joint search conducted by residents and the Bagawantalawa police led to the discovery of the damaged water pipes on the 28th. The ongoing disruption of the water supply has plunged approximately 225 families, including members of the business community in Kampiyan, into significant distress.
In response to this crisis, business owners in Kampiyan have closed their shops in solidarity, protesting the serious implications of the water shortage. They are urging the Hatton Magistrate's Court to impose stringent penalties on the apprehended suspects, emphasizing the urgency of the situation affecting both the local business community and plantation workers in the lower regions of Kampiyan.
