පොලිසියට ශරීර කැමරා 500 ක් මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා ප්රසම්පාදන ක්රියාවලියක් ආරම්භ වී තිබෙනවා. එය කළ යුතු දෙයක්. ජනතාවගේ ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු වෙන්න නම් පොලිස් ස්ථානවලින් පිටත රාජකාරිවල නියැළී සිටින පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ට පමණක් කැමරා පැලඳීම ප්රමාණවත් නෑ. පොලිස් ස්ථාන තුළටත් ආරක්ෂිත කැමරා අවශ්යයි. පොලිසි තුළදී පුද්ගලයන්ට වධහිංසා පැමිණවීම් සහ පහරදී මරා දැමීම් චෝදනා වාර්තා වෙනවා. කෙසේ වෙතත් මේ ශරීර කැමරා සඳහා හොඳ තීරණයක් ගෙන තිබියදීත් ආණ්ඩුව ඒ හොඳ වැඩේ කරන්නේත් නරක විදියට ද කියල සැකයි.

Concerns Raised Over Tender Irregularities in Police Body Camera Procurement
Vasantha Mudalige, an organizer of the public protest movement, has expressed serious doubts regarding potential irregularities in the tender process for the purchase of body cameras for police officers.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Nugegoda Kandawatta Trade Union Office, Mudalige emphasized the necessity of acquiring 500 body cameras for the police force. He noted that while this is an essential measure for ensuring public safety, merely equipping officers on patrol outside police stations with cameras is not sufficient. He called for the installation of secure cameras within police facilities as well.
Mudalige pointed out that there have been numerous allegations regarding incidents of police brutality and fatal assaults reported in police stations. Despite what appears to be a well-considered decision to acquire body cameras, he remains skeptical about the government’s commitment to implementing this initiative effectively.
He criticized the tender documentation as inadequately prepared, identifying several issues with the technical specifications included. According to him, the terms of reference seem to have been drafted with a reliance on artificial intelligence, evidenced by the lack of any revisions, even failing to remove unnecessary lines from the text. Instead of meticulously outlining the necessary technical features that would meet the needs of the Sri Lankan police, the document suggests a hasty compilation using ChatGPT.
Furthermore, Mudalige noted that significant discrepancies exist in the pricing submitted by competing firms, ranging from 50 million to 360 million rupees. Although minor variations in pricing between companies are expected, he questioned how such a vast gap could arise without clearly defined technical specifications.
He highlighted a troubling scenario where a government-affiliated company offered 170 million rupees, while another associated company submitted a bid of just 60 million rupees for the same equipment. The lack of standardized technical requirements has led to confusion, casting doubt on the integrity of the entire tendering process.
