කන්ටේනර් ප්‍රතිඅපනයනය කරන මුවාවෙන් රේගුව සහ ආරක්‍ෂක අංශ මුළා කර මේ ආකාරයට මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය තොග පිටින් රටට ඇතුළු කිරීමට මහා පරිමාණ ජාවාරම්කරුවන් කටයුතු කරමින් සිටින බවට තොරතුරු ලැබී ඇති බව ද ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නියෝජ්‍ය පොලිස්පතිවරයා කියා සිටියි.

මුහුදු මාර්ග ඔස්සේ ට්‍රෝලර් යාත්‍රාවලින් මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය තොග පිටින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට ගෙන්වීම පාලනය කිරීමට පොලිසිය සහ නාවික හමුදාව ඇතුළු ආරක්‍ෂක අංශ මේ වනවිට කටයුතු කර තිබෙන නිසා, ජාවාරම්කරුවන් මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය එවන ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගයක් ලෙස මෙය තෝරාගෙන තිබෙන බව ද රන්මල් කොඩිතුවක්කු මහතා පවසයි.

භාණ්ඩ ආනයනය කරන මුවාවෙන් කන්ටේනර්වල සඟවා මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය තොග රැගෙන ඒම නතර කිරීමට මේ වනවිටත් පොලිසිය සහ රේගුව ඒකාබද්ධව විශේෂ වැඩපිළිවෙළක් සකස් කර ඇති බවද පොලිස් මූලස්ථාන ආරංචි මාර්ග පවසයි.

මෙම ජාවාරම් කරගෙන යෑමට සහාය දක්වන දූෂිත නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් පිළිබඳව ද තොරතුරු පොලිස් බුද්ධි අංශ වෙත මේ වනවිට ලැබී ඇති අතර, එම නිලධාරීන් සම්බන්ධයෙන් ද පුළුල් විමර්ශන ආරම්භ කර ඇති බව රන්මල් කොඩිතුවක්කු මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියි.

ඉකුත් 01 වැනිදා කොළඹ වරායේදී කන්ටේනරයක තිබී රුපියල් කෝටි 1000 කට ආසන්න වටිනාකමෙන් යුත් අයිස් මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය කිලෝ ග්‍රෑම් 475 ක් පොලිසිය මගින් සොයාගෙන තිබිණි.

එම අයිස් මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය තොගය අත්අඩංගුවට ගනු ලැබුවේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නියෝජ්‍ය පොලිස්පති රන්මල් කොඩිතුවක්ක මහතා මාසයකට වැඩි කාලයක් තිස්සේ විශේෂ පොලිස් කණ්ඩායම් 2 ක් යොදවා සිදු කළ විමර්ශනයක ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස ය.

Sri Lanka on High Alert as Drug Trafficking via Containers Escalates

In a worrying trend, Sri Lanka has become a key transit point for large shipments of illicit drugs concealed within imported containers, as revealed by Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ranmal Kodithuwakku. He highlighted that this method has increasingly been adopted by traffickers to smuggle narcotics into the country.

Reports indicate that major drug smuggling operations are taking advantage of loopholes in the customs and security sectors, orchestrating the entry of narcotics into the island. Kodithuwakku emphasized that organized crime syndicates are specifically targeting this route for their operations.

In response to this burgeoning threat, police and naval forces, along with other security agencies, have intensified efforts to monitor and control drug shipments arriving via maritime channels. This coordinated approach aims to disrupt traffickers who have identified these waterways as prime routes for drug importation.

Efforts to curtail the smuggling of narcotics concealed in containers include collaborative initiatives between law enforcement and customs officials, who have developed specialized procedures to combat this issue effectively.

Moreover, the police intelligence unit has gathered information about corrupt officials who may be facilitating these illegal activities. Comprehensive investigations into their involvement have already begun, according to Kodithuwakku.

On November 1, police conducted a successful raid at the Colombo port, seizing approximately 475 kilograms of ice methamphetamine, valued at around 1 billion Sri Lankan Rupees. This substantial haul was the result of an extensive investigation aided by two specialized police teams over the past month.

The operation underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in tackling the rising tide of drug trafficking that threatens the safety and security of the nation.
