Houthi Rebels Claim Missile Strikes on Saudi Arabia's Aramco Amid Ongoing Conflict
In a bold move amid escalating tensions, Houthi fighters have announced missile and drone attacks targeting the Aramco oil company located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This claim comes as a direct response to recent airstrikes on Yemeni territory, particularly the city of Sana'a.
In a televised statement, a spokesperson for the Houthi military revealed that the operation successfully hit its targets, resulting in fires breaking out at the impacted locations. They accused Saudi Arabia of conducting around 60 airstrikes in various regions, including Sana'a, over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of air assaults to a concerning 1,420.
However, Saudi media outlets reported that the Houthi assertion regarding the attacks on Riyadh is entirely inaccurate and misleading, as stated by the coalition supporting the Yemeni government. This coalition has been active in the region since March 2015, following the Houthi takeover of several provinces, including the capital Sana'a, in September 2014.
The spokesperson emphasized that such announcements from the Houthis appear to be a tactic to divert public anger away from the massive losses they are facing and the devastation caused by their foreign alliances within Yemen.
In July of this year, the Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia, framing it as a retaliation against the air and naval encirclement imposed by the Saudis on their administrative areas in Yemen. Since then, they have relentlessly targeted Saudi's energy infrastructure.
