Body Parts of Endangered Elephant Discovered in Uva Province
A shocking discovery has emerged from a plot of land in the Demaliya area under the Uva Kudaoya police jurisdiction, where officials confirmed finding the dismembered remains of an elephant, reportedly concealed in a clandestine manner.
Following intelligence tips received by the Department of Wildlife Conservation, a coordinated operation was promptly launched by officials from the Kalupalam and Demaliya wildlife offices, in conjunction with personnel from the local police station.
During the operation, while excavating a suspicious site, the team unearthed parts of the elephant's body, which is feared to have been killed intentionally and disposed of.
The exact circumstances surrounding the elephant's death remain unclear, and wildlife veterinary officials are set to conduct a specialized post-mortem examination in order to present findings to the courtroom.
In light of this alarming incident, both the Uva Kudaoya police and wildlife officers have initiated an extensive investigation to uncover the identities of those responsible for the elephant's brutal killing and concealment of its evidence.
