තමන් කොළඹ කිංස්බරි (The Kingsbury) හෝටලයට පැමිණි අවස්ථාවේ ලබාගත් ආරක්ෂිත කැමරා (CCTV) දර්ශන විකෘති කර, ‘ජනාධිපති ඝාතන කුමන්ත්‍රණයක්’ යනුවෙන් අසත්‍ය ලේබල් අලවා සමාජ මාධ්‍ය වෙත මුදාහැරීමෙන් සිය කීර්තිනාමයට හානියක් සිදුකළ බවට චෝදනා කරමින් හිටපු අමාත්‍ය, විශ්‍රාමික රියර් අද්මිරාල් ආචාර්ය සරත් වීරසේකර මහතා එම හෝටල් කළමනාකාරීත්වය වෙත සිය නීතිඥවරුන් මාර්ගයෙන් එන්තරවාසියක් යොමු කර තිබේ.

එම සංස්කරණය කරන ලද වීඩියෝ පටය මඟින් සරත් වීරසේකර මහතා සහ බෞද්ධ භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේ නමක් එකම අවස්ථාවක හෝටල් කාමරයක් වෙත ඇතුළු වන ආකාරය පෙන්වමින්, ඔවුන් දෙදෙනා එක්ව හෝ එකම වේලාවක එම කාමරයට ඇතුළු වූ බවට සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම සාවද්‍ය සහ නොමඟ යවන සුළු හැඟීමක් සමාජගත කර ඇති බව එමඟින් චෝදනා කෙරේ.

හෝටලයේ පූර්ණ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ තිබිය යුතු මෙවැනි රහස්‍ය දර්ශන කිසිදු අවසරයකින් තොරව පිටස්තර පාර්ශ්ව වෙත ලබාදීම හෝටලයේ පෞද්ගලිකත්ව ප්‍රතිපත්තිය උල්ලංඝනය කිරීමක් වන අතර, එමඟින් තම සේවාදායකයාගේ පෞද්ගලිකත්වයට දැඩි හානි සිදුකර ඔහුව මාර්ගගත ක්‍රම ඔස්සේ දැඩි අපහාසයට සහ මානසික පීඩාවට ලක් කර ඇති බව නීතිඥවරු අවධාරණය කරති. එමෙන්ම, සිතාමතාම මෙවැනි අසත්‍ය ප්‍රකාශ සහ දර්ශන සන්නිවේදනය කිරීම 2024 අංක 09 දරන මාර්ගගත ක්‍රමවල සුරක්ෂිතභාවය පිළිබඳ පනතේ 20 වැනි වගන්තිය යටතේ ගැනෙන බරපතළ වරදක් බවට ද හෝටල් කළමනාකාරීත්වයේ අවධානයට යොමු කර ඇත.
Former Minister Takes Legal Action Against Kingsbury Hotel Over Distorted CCTV Footage
Former Minister and retired Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekara has initiated legal proceedings against the management of The Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo, alleging that they damaged his reputation by altering security camera (CCTV) footage and disseminating it on social media with false labels suggesting a "presidential assassination conspiracy."
The legal documents reveal that Dr. Weerasekara visited the hotel around October 24. It is alleged that the hotel administration has manipulated the recordings from their CCTV system, which is supposed to be under strict supervision, and shared them collaboratively with certain social media influencers.
The edited video purports to show both Dr. Weerasekara and a Buddhist monk entering a hotel room simultaneously. Legal representatives argue that this portrayal is entirely misleading and conveys an incorrect narrative to the public.
Further complicating the situation, these distorted visuals have been promoted under the title suggesting a "presidential assassination conspiracy," inaccurately attributing the role of Dr. Weerasekara's secretary to Major General Kapila Hendavitharana, the current head of national intelligence, thereby misleading the public regarding his involvement.
Legal counsel has emphasized that sharing such classified footage, which should remain confidential, without appropriate permissions constitutes a violation of the hotel's privacy policy. This breach, they argue, significantly harms the privacy of the client and subjects him to severe online abuse and mental distress. Moreover, the communication of such false information and images is highlighted as a serious offense under Section 20 of the 2024 Digital Security Act, prompting the hotel’s management to heed the gravity of this legal breach.
