ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ ඉන්ධන මිල ඉහළ යන සෑම අවස්ථාවකදීම මෙරට තෙල් මිල සංශෝධනය කරන්නේ නම් ආණ්ඩුවක් පවතින්නේ කුමකටදැයි අතීතයේදී මතු කළ ප්‍රශ්නය මෙරට ජනතාවට තවමත් අමතක වී නොමැති බව හිටපු පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී සංජීව එදිරිමාන්න මහතා පවසයි.

පෙට්‍රල් ලීටරයක් සඳහා රුපියල් දහයක බද්දක් වෙනුවට රුපියල් විස්සක් හෝ අය කර, එසේත් නැතිනම් යෝජිත බදු මුදල දෙගුණයකින් ඉහළ නංවා හෝ ඉන්ධන මිල ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලෙස හෙතෙම ජනාධිපතිවරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.

Former MP Questions Government's Inaction Amid Rising Fuel Prices

The persistent issue of rising fuel prices on the global market continues to raise concerns among the Sri Lankan public. Sanjeewa Edirimanna, a former Member of Parliament, highlighted this ongoing dilemma, questioning the government's commitment to addressing the situation during a recent media briefing at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party headquarters.

Edirimanna asserted that it is crucial for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to transparently communicate the actual cost of petrol per liter as it arrives at the port. He emphasized the need for clarity to help the public understand the economic implications of these price changes.

He also suggested that instead of imposing a tax of just ten rupees on petrol, the government should consider raising it to twenty rupees or, alternatively, significantly increasing the proposed tax rate. This, he argued, would help prevent any further hikes in fuel prices from being communicated to the public.

The actions of the current administration, he noted, have inflicted severe hardships on the populace, leading to widespread distress and growing political frustration. Edirimanna expressed concern that these sentiments may not be fully appreciated by those in power, calling for greater awareness and responsiveness from government leaders.
