Urgent Recall of 'Co-amoxiclav' Antibiotics Following Quality Assurance Concerns
The Health Ministry has moved swiftly to withdraw four batches of the antibiotic 'Co-amoxiclav' in 1000-200 mg formulations after confirming quality deficiencies. This decisive action came in response to directives from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
In particular, the Medical Supplies Division of the Health Ministry has disseminated specific circulars to all hospitals and health institutions across the country, ensuring awareness of the withdrawal.
Included in the recall are batches identified under the trade name 'Boclav 1.2', specifically B 15017, B 15001, B 15018, and B 15002.
Manufactured by Bharat Parenterals in Gujarat, India, these affected batches were produced in January of the previous year and are slated to expire in December. This timeline underscores the urgency of the recall.
The decision to withdraw the drugs was founded on four reports issued by the National Medicines Quality Assurance Laboratory (NMQAL), which operates under the NMRA. This action was ratified by the authority's safety and risk assessment committee, emphasizing the need for prompt measures.
The circular instructs health authorities and local health service directors in all provinces to immediately halt the use of the affected batches while adhering to the guidelines from the Health Secretary numbered 01/2021, dated December 8, 2021.
