High-Tech US Marine Corps Aircraft Arrives at Bandaranaike International Airport

This afternoon, a state-of-the-art MV-22B Osprey belonging to the United States Marine Corps arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, Sri Lanka. The aircraft was deployed from a US naval ship stationed in the Indian Ocean.

Manufactured by the renowned Boeing Company, the MV-22B Osprey is notable for its unique technology, functioning both as a helicopter and a fixed-wing airplane. This dual capability allows it to take off and land vertically like a helicopter, while also achieving high speeds and long-range flight typical of conventional fixed-wing aircraft.

One of its key features is the ability to tilt its rotors, allowing for vertical lift and horizontal flight without relying on traditional airstrips for takeoff and landing.

The aircraft flew to Sri Lanka from approximately 50 nautical miles off the southern coast, where it had been stationed aboard the US naval ship conducting operations in the Indian Ocean.
