Democratic Party Gains Ground in Crucial U.S. Congressional Elections
The latest preliminary results from the pivotal congressional elections aimed at confirming the Democratic majority in the U.S. House of Representatives have revealed a significant lead for the opposition party. International media reports highlight the Democrats’ advantageous position as they strive to secure control.
To establish a majority within the 435-member House of Representatives, a party needs to win at least 218 seats. According to the latest official and projected data released by Associated Press, the Democratic Party has currently secured 97 seats, while the governing Republican Party is poised to win approximately 52.
In an unprecedented shift, Democrats have successfully flipped two seats previously held by Republicans back to their party, indicating a strong trend of change.
Notably, in North Carolina's 11th congressional district, which has been continuously represented by Republicans for over 15 years, Democratic candidate Jamie Burch has emerged victorious for the first time since 2010.
Additionally, Democratic contender Richard Ojeda has gained the lead over Republican congressman and campaign chairman Richard Hudson in North Carolina's 9th district.
In a historic milestone, Melat Kiros, who won in Colorado's first district, has become the first woman from Generation Z to be elected to the U.S. Congress. Democratic socialist candidates in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey have also reported several significant wins, while Democratic representatives in Florida managed to retain control in multiple districts despite Republican gerrymandering efforts.
Instant exit polls conducted near polling stations reveal that six out of ten voters identified President Donald Trump as a pivotal factor in how they cast their ballots. Voter dissatisfaction with issues such as military conflicts, tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, inflation, and rising living costs has been pronounced. Trump's approval rating has dropped to 38%, placing him among the lowest approval levels for a sitting president facing midterm elections in recent history.
