 ලෝක තෙල් වෙළඳපොළේ ඇති වී තිබෙන අස්ථාවරත්වය සහ ඉන් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට එල්ල වන බලපෑම පිළිබඳව සාකච්ඡා කිරීම සඳහා ලංකා ඛනිජ තෙල් නීතිගත සංස්ථාව ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතාගෙන් හදිසි හමුවක් ඉල්ලා ඇත.

ලෝක වෙළඳපොළේ පවතින මෙම තත්ත්වය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට අයහපත් බව පවසන ඛනිජ තෙල් සංස්ථාවේ සභාපති ඩී.ජේ. රාජකරුණා මහතා, පවතින අයහපත් ප්‍රවණතාව පිළිබඳව මහජනතාව දැනුවත් විය යුතු බව අවධාරණය කර තිබේ.

මේ මස ආරම්භයේ පැවති මිල ගණන් හා සසඳන විට ඩීසල් මිල සියයට 45 කින් සහ පෙට්‍රල් මිල සියයට 30 කින් පමණ ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බවත්, බොරතෙල් මිල ද ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ යමින් පවතින බවත් ඔහු පෙන්වා දෙයි. සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම ඉන්ධන ආනයනය මත යැපෙන ශ්‍රී ලංකාව වැනි රටකට මෙම තත්ත්වය දරා ගැනීම  දුෂ්කර වනු ඇත.

"අපි ජනාධිපතිවරයා සමඟ හමුවක් ඉල්ලා තිබෙන්නේ පවතින තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීමට ගත යුතු නව ක්‍රියාමාර්ග පිළිබඳව සාකච්ඡා කිරීමටයි. දැනට පවතින තත්ත්වය අනුව ඉන්ධන පරිභෝජනය සීමා කිරීම අත්‍යවශ්‍ය වී තිබෙනවා," යැයි සභාපතිවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කර ඇත.

මීට අමතරව, පවතින වියළි කාලගුණය නිසා ජල විදුලි උත්පාදන ධාරිතාව පහත වැටී ඇති අතර, එමඟින් විදුලි උත්පාදනය සඳහා අවශ්‍ය ඉන්ධන ඉල්ලුම තවදුරටත් ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බව රාජකරුණා මහතා පවසයි.

ප්‍රමාණවත් පරිදි ජල විදුලිය නිපදවීමට නොහැකි වීම නිසා විදුලිය ලබා දීම සඳහා සංස්ථාව සතු ඉන්ධන තොග වැඩි වශයෙන් මුදා හැරීමට සිදුවීම තවත් බරපතළ අභියෝගයක් බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දී තිබේ.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has called for an urgent meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss the implications of the ongoing volatility in the global oil market on Sri Lanka.

D.J. Rajakaruna, Chairman of the Corporation, expressed concerns about the adverse effects of the current market conditions, emphasizing the need to raise public awareness regarding the troubling trends. He noted that diesel prices have surged by 45% and petrol costs have increased by 30% compared to earlier this month. The prices of crude oil are also expected to rise rapidly, complicating matters for a country like Sri Lanka that heavily relies on fuel imports.

"We have requested a meeting with the President to discuss new measures necessary for managing the prevailing situation. It has become essential to impose restrictions on fuel consumption based on the current outlook," Rajakaruna stated.

Additionally, he pointed out that the ongoing dry weather has significantly reduced hydropower generation capacity, further escalating the demand for fuel needed for electricity production.

The inability to generate adequate hydropower presents another significant challenge, necessitating the release of substantial fuel reserves held by the Corporation to ensure electricity supply, he added.
