මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරය තුළ අද (06) පෙරවරුවේ හටගත් නොසන්සුන්කාරී තත්ත්වයක් මත බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන් තිදෙනෙකු ඇතුළු පස් දෙනෙකු ජීවිතක්ෂයට පත්ව තිබේ.

ඊයේ (05) ආරම්භ වූ ගැටුම්වල වර්ධනයක් ලෙස අද උදෑසන බන්ධනාගාර නිලධාරීන් සහ රැඳවියන් පිරිසක් අතර මෙම ගැටුම හටගෙන ඇති බව පොලිසිය පවසයි.

මීගමුව රෝහල් අධ්‍යක්ෂවරයා තහවුරු කළේ අද දින මියගිය තිදෙනෙකුම ආරක්ෂක නිලධාරීන් බවයි. ගැටුමෙන් තුවාල ලැබූ තවත් 60 දෙනෙකු පමණ මේ වන විට මීගමුව රෝහලට ඇතුළත් කර ඇති අතර, ඉන් බහුතරයක් ආරක්ෂක අංශ නිලධාරීන් වීම විශේෂත්වයකි.

බන්ධනාගාරය තුළ රැඳවියන් නිලධාරීන් ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින් ප්‍රහාර එල්ල කර ඇති බව වාර්තා වේ.

නොසන්සුන්තාව පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා ආරක්ෂක අංශවලට වෙඩි ප්‍රහාර කිහිපයක් එල්ල කිරීමට සිදු වූ බව උසස් පොලිස් නිලධාරියෙක් සඳහන් කළේය.

තත්ත්වය බරපතළ වීම හේතුවෙන් මීගමුව පොලිසියට අමතරව මීරිගම සහ වේයන්ගොඩ ඇතුළු අවට පොලිස් ස්ථානවලින් අතිරේක කණ්ඩායම් කැඳවා ඇති අතර, පොලිස් විශේෂ කාර්ය බලකාය ද බන්ධනාගාරයේ ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා අනුයුක්ත කර තිබේ.

මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේ රිමාන්ඩ් භාරයේ පසුවන රැඳවියන් සහ දඬුවම් ලැබූ රැඳවියන් අතර ඊයේ (05) පස්වරු 1.00ට පමණ ආරම්භ වූ ගැටුමෙන් ද රැඳවියන් දෙදෙනෙකු මියගොස් 38 දෙනෙකු තුවාල ලැබූහ.

අද උදෑසන වන විට තත්ත්වය පාලනය කර ඇති බව වාර්තා වුවද, පෙරවරු කාලයේදී රැඳවියන් සහ නිලධාරීන් අතර යළිත් ගැටුම් ඇවිළී ගියේය. ඒ අනුව ගත වූ පැය 24 තුළ මෙම බන්ධනාගාර ගැටුම් හේතුවෙන් මියගිය සමස්ත සංඛ්‍යාව 7ක් දක්වා ඉහළ ගොස් තිබේ.

මේ වන විට බන්ධනාගාරය අවට ප්‍රදේශයේ දැඩි ආරක්ෂාවක් යොදවා ඇති අතර, සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් බන්ධනාගාර දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහ පොලිසිය මගින් පුළුල් විමර්ශනයක් ආරම්භ කර ඇත.

Violence Erupts in Minuwangoda Prison, Leading to Multiple Fatalities

Chaos erupted at the Minuwangoda Prison early this morning (6), resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including three prison officers. The unrest is a continuation of clashes that began yesterday (5), according to police reports.

The Director of Minuwangoda Hospital confirmed that the deceased were all security personnel. Additionally, approximately 35 individuals, primarily prison officers, have been admitted to the hospital with injuries sustained during the violent incidents.

Reports indicate that inmates targeted prison officials in a series of violent assaults within the facility.

To regain control over the situation, security forces were compelled to launch several rounds of gunfire, as stated by a senior police officer.

In light of the grave situation, extra teams have been dispatched from nearby police stations in Mirigama and Veyangoda, supplementing the Minuwangoda Police, alongside the deployment of a special police task force to secure the prison.

The violence initially ignited around 1:00 PM on the previous day, leading to the deaths of two inmates and injuries to 38 others during a confrontation that involved both remanded prisoners and convicted individuals.

While reports indicated that the situation was under control this morning, fresh clashes broke out again between inmates and officers during the early hours. Consequently, the total death toll linked to the prison violence within the last 24 hours has now risen to seven.

Heavy security measures have been implemented in the surrounding areas of the prison, and a thorough investigation has been initiated by both the Department of Prisons and the police regarding the incidents.
