හිටපු පොලිස්පති මරණයේ රහස් රැසක් හෙලිවේ...

 ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසියේ 35 වන පොලිස්පතිවරයා ලෙස කටයුතු කළ සී.ඩී. වික්‍රමරත්න මහතා (17) මාලඹේ, තලහේන ප්‍රදේශයේ පිහිටි ඒ මහතාගේ පෞද්ගලික නිවසේදී වෙඩි වැදීමකින් ජීවිතක්ෂයට පත්ව තිබේ. මූලික පොලිස් පරීක්ෂණවලදී අනාවරණය වී ඇත්තේ මෙය සියදිවි හානිකර ගැනීමක් බවට සැක කරන බවයි.

උදෑසන ශරීර සුවතා ව්‍යායාම සඳහා පිටත්ව යාමට පෙර, වික්‍රමරත්න මහතා සිය පෞද්ගලික ආරක්ෂක නිලධාරියාගෙන් ඔහුගේ සේවා පිස්තෝලය ඉල්ලා තිබේ. 

ගිනිඅවියේ තත්ත්වය පරීක්ෂා කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය බව පවසමින් ඔහු එය ලබාගෙන ඇති අතර, පසුව නිවසේ සාලයේ අසුනක වාඩි වී සිටියදීම සිය දකුණු පස පපු ප්‍රදේශයට වෙඩි තබාගෙන ඇති බව වාර්තා වේ.

 අවිය රැගෙන ගිය ඔහු තමා ළග තිබූ වෙනත් උණ්ඩ යොදා මෙම වෙඩිතැබීම සිදුකරගෙන ඇති බවට සැක කෙරේ.

එම අවස්ථාවේ ඔහුගේ පවුලේ සාමාජිකයින් ද නිවසේ සිට ඇති අතර පෞද්ගලික හේතුවක් මත ඔහු සිය දිවි නසාගෙන ඇති බවට සැක කරයි. 

වෙඩි හඬ ඇසී දිව ආ පවුලේ සාමාජිකයන් සහ ආරක්ෂක නිලධාරීන් වහාම ඒ මහතාව මුල්ලේරියාව මූලික රෝහලට ඇතුළත් කළ ද, ඒ වන විටත් ඔහු මියගොස් සිටි බව රෝහල් ආරංචි මාර්ග තහවුරු කළේය.

සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් වික්‍රමරත්න මහතාගේ බිරිඳගෙන් පොලිසිය ප්‍රකාශ සටහන් කරගෙන ඇත. එහිදී ඇය පවසා ඇත්තේ සිය පුත්‍රයා සම්බන්ධයෙන් පවතින අධිකරණ කටයුත්තක් හේතුවෙන් හිටපු පොලිස්පතිවරයා පසුගිය දින කිහිපය පුරාම දැඩි මානසික පීඩනයකින් සහ කම්පනයකින් පසු වූ බවයි.

විශේෂයෙන්ම, අදාළ නඩු කටයුත්ත අතරතුර සිය පුත්‍රයාව අධිකරණ සිර මැදිරියක රඳවා තැබීම වික්‍රමරත්න මහතාගේ දැඩි කම්පනයට හේතු වී ඇති බව ඇය වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කර තිබේ.

කඩුවෙල මහේස්ත්‍රාත් විසින් මහේස්ත්‍රාත් පරීක්ෂණය පවත්වන ලද අතර, බස්නාහිර පළාත් දකුණු දිසාව අපරාධ කොට්ඨාසය සහ මාලඹේ පොලිසිය එක්ව විශේෂ පරීක්ෂණ කණ්ඩායම් දෙකක් මගින් විමර්ශන ආරම්භ කර ඇත. මීට අමතරව ඇඟිලි සලකුණු පරීක්ෂකවරුන් සහ සොකෝ නිලධාරීන් ද එම ස්ථානයට පැමිණ සාක්ෂි එකතු කිරීමේ කටයුතුවල නිරත විය.

මියයන විට 63 වන වියේ පසු වූ සී.ඩී. වික්‍රමරත්න මහතා 1986 වසරේදී සහකාර පොලිස් අධිකාරීවරයෙකු ලෙස පොලිස් සේවයට එක්විය. 2020 නොවැම්බර් 27 වනදා මෙරට 35 වන පොලිස්පතිවරයා ලෙස පත්වූ ඔහු, අවස්ථා හතරකදී සේවා දිගු ලබමින් 2023 නොවැම්බර් 23 වනදා දක්වා එම ධුරයේ රාජකාරි කළේය.

දේහය පිළිබඳ පශ්චාත් මරණ පරීක්ෂණය මුල්ලේරියාව රෝහලේදී පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත අතර, සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් වැඩිදුර විමර්ශන ක්‍රියාත්මකය.

Former Sri Lankan Police Chief CD Wickramarathna Dies in Gun Incident

In a tragic turn of events, former Police Chief CD Wickramarathna was shot and killed at his residence in Malabe, Talawathugoda, on the evening of the 17th. Initial police investigations suggest that the incident may have been a suicide.

Prior to leaving for a morning fitness session, Wickramarathna requested his personal security officer to hand over his service pistol for inspection. Reportedly, he had stated a need to check its condition. Subsequently, while sitting in the living room of his home, he is alleged to have fired the weapon towards the southern part of the premises.

Investigators suspect that he may have used another firearm he had on hand to carry out the shooting.

At the time of the incident, family members were present in the house, leading investigators to suspect that personal reasons might have driven him to take his own life.

Upon hearing the gunshot, relatives and security personnel rushed Wickramarathna to the Mulleriagaha Primary Hospital, however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, as confirmed by hospital sources.

The police have taken statements from Wickramarathna's wife, who revealed that he had been under severe mental distress due to ongoing legal proceedings involving their son. She further elaborated that the imprisonment of their son in connection with a court case had deeply affected him.

The Kadawatha Magistrate is conducting an inquiry into the incident, with specialized investigative teams from the Western Province's Criminal Division and the Malabe police commencing their inquiries. In addition, fingerprint experts and forensic officers have arrived at the scene to gather evidence.

Wickramarathna, who was 63 at the time of his death, joined the police service in 1986 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He was appointed as the 35th Inspector General of Police on November 27, 2020, and continued to serve in that role until November 23, 2023.

A post-mortem examination of the body is scheduled to take place at the Mulleriagaha Hospital, while further investigations into the incident are underway.
