අගමැතිනි අතින් සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයීය වෛද්‍ය පීඨය සිසු අයිතියට...

 ශ්‍රී ලංකා සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ වෛද්‍ය පීඨය, අද (2026.07.04 ) දින ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රජාතාන්ත්‍රික සමාජවාදී ජනරජයේ ගරු අග්‍රාමාත්‍ය ආචාර්ය හරිනි අමරසූරිය මැතිණියගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් සිසු අයතියට පත්විය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ සෞදි අරාබි රාජ්‍යයන්ගේ ඒකාබද්ධ මූල්‍ය ප්‍රදානයන් යටතේ ඉදිකර ඇති මෙම වෛද්‍ය පීඨය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ රත්නපුර නව නගරය ආශ්‍රිතවය. අක්කර 21කින් යුක්ත භූමියක පිහිටි මෙම වෛද්‍ය පීඨය තුළ මෙම වර්ෂය සදහා වෛද්‍ය සිසුන් 162 දෙනෙකු ඇතුළත් කර ගෙන ඇත.

මේවන විට මෙහි වෛද්‍ය සිසුන් 750 දෙනෙකු පමණ අධ්‍යාපනය හදාරයි. මෙම පීඨය ඉදිකිරීම සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජය ලබාදී ඇති මුදල රුපියල් මිලියන 1096කි. සෞදි රාජ්‍යය මේ සඳහා ලබාදී ඇති මුදල ඇමෙරිකන් ඩොලර් මිලියන 50කි. 

මෙය සිසුන් 500කට එකවර නේවාසික පහසුකම් ලබාදිය හැකි නේවාසිකාගාරයකින්ද, 1060කට එකවර අසුන් ගත හැකි නවීන ශ්‍රවණාගාරයකින්ද යුක්තය.

එමෙන්ම මෙය අසුන් 250කින් සමන්විත දේශනාගාර දෙකකින්ද, සිසුන් 200 ක් අසුන් ගත හැකි දේශනාගාර එකකින් සහ සිසුන් 160ක් අසුන් ගත හැකි දේශන ශාලා තුනකින්ද සමන්විතය. කාර්ය මණ්ඩලයේ නේවාසිකාගාර, ආපනශාලාවලින්ද මෙම පරිශ්‍රය සමන්විතය. 

රත්නපුර ශික්ෂණ රෝහල ආශ්‍රිතව මහල් නවයකින් යුත් අංගසම්පූර්ණ මහාචාර්ය ඒකකයක්ද මෙම වෛද්‍ය පීඨය වෙනුවෙන් ඉදිකරමින් පවතියි. එහි ඇඳන් 418ක් සහ අංගසම්පූර්ණ විද්‍යාගාර, රසායනාගාර ඇතුළු වෙනත් පහසුකම්වලින්ද එය සමන්විතය. 

වර්ෂ 2005 දී සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ සැලැස්මට මෙම වෛද්‍ය පීඨය ඇතුළත් කර ඇත. වර්ෂ 2019 දී රජය මගින් ගැසට් කර එම වර්ෂයේදීම සබරගමුව විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ වෛද්‍ය පීඨය සිසුන් 72 දෙනෙකුගෙන් කුරුවිට, බටුහේන පිහිටි රජයේ විගණන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ගොඩනැගිලි සංකීර්ණයක ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. මීට අමතරව රත්නපුර පිහිටි විදේශ සේවා නියුක්ති කාර්‍යංශය සතු ගොඩනැගිලි සංකීර්ණයක, සබරගමුව පළාත් සභාවේ සෞඛ්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නිලධාරී කාර්යාලයකද දේශන පවත්වන ලදී.

New Medical Faculty Opens at Sabaragamuwa University in Sri Lanka

In a significant development for higher education in Sri Lanka, the Medical Faculty at Sabaragamuwa University officially commenced operations today, led by the esteemed Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

This new faculty, constructed under a collaborative financial initiative between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is strategically located near the Ratnapura new town on a 21-acre expanse. For this academic year, 162 medical students have been enrolled, contributing to a total of approximately 750 students currently pursuing their medical education at the faculty.

The construction of this facility was made possible through a substantial investment of LKR 1,096 million from the Sri Lankan government, alongside a generous funding of USD 50 million from the Saudi Arabian government. The establishment is equipped with residential facilities capable of accommodating 500 students simultaneously, as well as a advanced lecture hall designed to seat 1,060 individuals.

In addition, the faculty features two lecture halls, each with a seating capacity for 250 students, and a versatile auditorium that can accommodate 200 students. The building also houses three seminar rooms with a total capacity for 160 students, alongside staff housing and dining facilities.

Currently, a modern teaching hospital is under construction adjacent to the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, dedicated to the medical faculty. This facility will comprise 418 beds and will be fully equipped with laboratories and other essential amenities.

Originally proposed in 2005, the establishment of the Medical Faculty at Sabaragamuwa University received governmental approval in 2019. The first intake of 72 students began their studies in a complex affiliated with the Government Analyst’s Department in Kuruwita, Badulle, in the same year. Additionally, classes were also conducted in buildings belonging to the Foreign Employment Bureau in Ratnapura and the Health Medical Officer's Office in the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.
