 මීගමුව බන්ධනාගාරයේ මෑතකදී සිදු වූ වෙඩි තැබීමේ සිද්ධිය විවේචනයට ලක් කරමින් හිටපු අමාත්‍ය රාජිත සේනාරත්න මහතා පවසා සිටියේ, බන්ධනාගාර දොරේ සිදුරෙන් ගිනි අවි දමා වෙඩි තැබීමේදී ඉන් අනතුරට පත්වන්නේ කවුරුන්ද යන්න පිළිබඳව කිසිදු නිශ්චිතභාවයක් නොමැති බවයි.

මාධ්‍ය වෙත අදහස් දක්වමින් ඒ මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, මෙවැනි ක්‍රියා මාර්ග අතිශය භයානක මෙන්ම වැරදි සහගත බවයි.

"දොරේ සිදුරෙන් තුවක්කුව දාලා වෙඩි තියද්දී ඒක වදින්නේ ජේලර් කෙනෙකුටද, එහෙමත් නැත්නම් අහිංසක හිරකරුවෙකුටද කියලා දන්නේ කවුද?" යනුවෙන් ඔහු ප්‍රශ්න කර සිටියේය.

මෙවැනි සිදුවීම් ජාත්‍යන්තර අවධානයට ලක්වීම හරහා රජය දැඩි අපහසුතාවයට පත්විය හැකි බවත්, මානව හිමිකම් සම්බන්ධයෙන් බරපතළ ගැටලු මතු විය හැකි බවත් සේනාරත්න මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කළේය.

බන්ධනාගාර පද්ධතිය තුළ මෙවැනි අවිධිමත් වෙඩි තැබීම් සිදු කිරීම කිසිසේත් අනුමත කළ නොහැකි බව ද හිටපු අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

Former Minister Raises Concerns Over Shooting Incident at Meegamuwa Prison

The recent shooting incident at Meegamuwa Prison has prompted strong criticism from former minister Rajitha Senaratne, who highlighted the uncertainty surrounding who would be harmed when firearms are discharged through prison doors.

In his remarks to the media, Senaratne emphasized the dangerous and erroneous nature of such actions, underlining their potential for grave consequences.

“When shots are fired through an opening in the door, how can we determine whether it will strike a jailer or an innocent inmate?” he questioned, expressing his disapproval of the situation.

He further warned that such incidents could attract international attention, placing the government in a challenging position and potentially leading to serious human rights concerns.

Senaratne firmly stated that the occurrence of uncontrolled shootings within the prison system is completely unacceptable.
