පලතුරු ඉදවීමට වස විස යොදන අයට එරෙහිව දැඩි නීති..

 වෙළෙඳපොළේ අලෙවි කරන පලතුරු ඉදවීම සඳහා විෂ රසායනික ද්‍රව්‍ය භාවිත කිරීම වැළැක්වීමට රජය දැඩි නීතිමය පියවර ගැනීමට තීරණය කර තිබේ. මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් වන විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවක් වෙළෙඳ, වාණිජ, ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතාව සහ සමුපකාර සංවර්ධන අමාත්‍ය වසන්ත සමරසිංහ මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන්  එම අමාත්‍යාංශයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

විශේෂයෙන් කෙසෙල්, අඹ සහ පේර වැනි පලතුරු ඉදවීම සඳහා විවිධ රසායනික ද්‍රව්‍ය භාවිත කරන බවට පාරිභෝගික සේවා අධිකාරිය වෙත පැමිණිලි රැසක් ලැබී ඇති බව අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී අනාවරණය කළේය.

පාරිභෝගිකයන්ගේ සෞඛ්‍ය ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා මෙවැනි අහිතකර ක්‍රියාවන් වහාම නතර කිරීමට ගත යුතුක්‍රියාමාර්ග පිළිබඳව මෙහිදී දීර්ඝ වශයෙන් සාකච්ඡා කෙරිණි.

මෙම සාකච්ඡාව සඳහා පාරිභෝගික සේවා අධිකාරියේ සභාපති හේමන්ත සමරකෝන් මහතා ඇතුළු කෘෂිකර්ම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව, ගන්නෝරුව කෘෂිකර්ම පර්යේෂණ ආයතනය, පශ්චාත් අස්වනු තාක්ෂණ ආයතනය, හොරණ පලතුරු පර්යේෂණ ආයතනය, ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රමිති ආයතනය සහ කාර්මික තාක්ෂණ ආයතනය යන ආයතනවල ඉහළ පෙළේ නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් සහභාගී වූහ.

විෂ රසායනික ද්‍රව්‍ය යොදා ඉදවන ලද පලතුරු පරිභෝජනය කිරීමෙන් ඇතිවන දිගුකාලීන සෞඛ්‍ය බලපෑම් පිළිබඳව මෙතෙක් ප්‍රමාණවත් පර්යේෂණ සිදු කර නොමැති බව පෙන්වා දුන් අමාත්‍යවරයා, පවතින නීතිමය රාමුව තුළ පවතින අඩුපාඩු සහ ඒවා ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේදී මතුවන අභියෝග පිළිබඳව ද අවධානය යොමු කළේය.

පවතින නීති රීති මෙම ගැටලුව විසඳීමට ප්‍රමාණවත් නොවන්නේ නම්, පාරිභෝගික සේවා අධිකාරී පනත සංශෝධනය කිරීමට වුවද රජය සූදානම් බව අමාත්‍ය වසන්ත සමරසිංහ මහතා මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කළේය.

පාරිභෝගිකයන් සුරක්ෂිත කිරීම සඳහා වැටලීම් සහ නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ යාන්ත්‍රණය තවදුරටත් ශක්තිමත් කිරීමට ද මෙහිදී තීරණය විය.

Sri Lankan Government Takes Strong Legal Action Against Use of Pesticides in Fruit Cultivation

The Sri Lankan government is asserting its commitment to public health by initiating stringent legal measures to curb the use of chemical pesticides in the cultivation of fruits sold in markets. This decision follows a pivotal discussion led by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Safety, and Cooperative Development, Vasantha Samarasinghe, at a recent meeting held at the ministry.

Minister Samarasinghe revealed that numerous complaints had been lodged with the Consumer Affairs Authority regarding the use of various chemicals in the cultivation of key fruits, including bananas, mangoes, and pears. These alarming reports have prompted the government to take immediate action to ensure consumer safety.

During the discussion, extensive deliberations took place on the necessary steps to halt such harmful practices and protect the health of consumers. Participants included high-ranking officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority, the Department of Agriculture, the Gannoruwa Agricultural Research Institute, the Post-Harvest Technology Institute, the Horana Fruit Research Institute, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, and the Industrial Technology Institute.

Highlighting the lack of comprehensive research on the long-term health impacts of consuming fruits treated with pesticides, the Minister also addressed the existing legal framework's deficiencies and the challenges in enforcing compliance with these regulations.

Minister Samarasinghe emphasized the government's readiness to amend the Consumer Affairs Authority Act should current legal provisions prove inadequate in addressing the issue. The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen mechanisms for enforcement and legal action to ensure the safety of consumers.
