දැනට වර්ධනය වෙමින් පවතින 'එල් නිනෝ' සංසිද්ධිය හේතුවෙන් ඉදිරි කාලසීමාව තුළ දිවයිනේ කාලගුණ රටාවන්හි දැඩි වෙනස්කම් සිදුවිය හැකි බව කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව අනතුරු අඟවයි.
කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල් අජිත් විජේමාන්න මහතා මාධ්ය වෙත අදහස් දක්වමින් ප්රකාශ කළේ, මෙම තත්ත්වය හමුවේ දිවයිනේ ඇතැම් ප්රදේශවලට සාමාන්ය අගයට වඩා වැඩි වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබිය හැකි අතර, තවත් ප්රදේශ කිහිපයකට දැඩි නියං තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිවීමේ අවදානමක් පවතින බවයි.
නවතම ගෝලීය කාලගුණ පුරෝකථනයන්ට අනුව, මීට පෙර දුර්වල මට්ටමක පැවති එල් නිනෝ තත්ත්වය මේ වන විට ක්රමයෙන් මධ්යස්ථ මට්ටමක් දක්වා වර්ධනය වෙමින් පවතී. එළඹෙන ඔක්තෝබර් සහ දෙසැම්බර් මාස අතර කාලය තුළ මෙම තත්ත්වය උපරිම මට්ටමට පත්වීමේ සම්භාවිතාව සියයට 81ක් දක්වා ඉහළ ගොස් ඇති බව ද අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය. මීට පෙර එම සම්භාවිතාව සියයට 63ක් ලෙස පුරෝකථනය කර තිබුණි.
කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ නවතම වාර්තාවලට අනුව, මෙම මස අවසාන දින කිහිපයේ සහ ලබන මස මුල් දිනවල බස්නාහිර සහ සබරගමුව පළාත්වලටත්, මහනුවර, නුවරඑළිය, ගාල්ල සහ මාතර යන දිස්ත්රික්කවලටත් වැඩි වර්ෂාපතනයක් අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.
කෙසේ වෙතත්, දිවයිනේ සෙසු ප්රදේශවල ලබන මාසයේදී වියළි කාලගුණික තත්ත්වයක් පවතිනු ඇති අතර, මිනිස් සිරුරට දැනෙන උණුසුම ද ඉහළ යා හැකි බව දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පවසයි. සැප්තැම්බර් මස අග භාගයේදී යළි සැලකිය යුතු වර්ෂාපතනයක් ලැබෙනු ඇතැයි ද අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. මෙම අන්තගාමී කාලගුණ විපර්යාසයන් පිළිබඳව අවධානයෙන් පසුවන ලෙස කාලගුණ විද්යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මහජනතාවගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියි.
Weather Patterns in Sri Lanka Expected to Shift Due to Strengthening El Niño
The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding significant changes in weather patterns across the island, attributing these fluctuations to the ongoing El Niño phenomenon.
Director General of the Department, Ajith Wijemanna, emphasized that certain areas could experience rainfall levels exceeding the norm, while several other regions may face the risk of severe drought conditions.
Recent global climate forecasts indicate that the previously weak El Niño condition has now escalated to a moderate level. The likelihood of this situation peaking between October and December has risen sharply to 81%, up from an earlier prediction of 63%, as pointed out by the Director General.
According to the latest departmental reports, enhanced rainfall is expected towards the end of this month and at the beginning of next month in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara.
Conversely, other regions in the country are likely to experience dry weather conditions next month, with rising temperatures potentially affecting human comfort levels. The department anticipates a significant return of rainfall by the latter half of September. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant regarding these extreme weather variations.
