 නේපාලයේ උතුරු දේශසීමා ආසන්නයේ හිමාල කඳුකර නිම්න හරහා හමා ගිය දරුණු හදිසි ගංවතුර තත්ත්වයක් හේතුවෙන් අවම වශයෙන් පුද්ගලයන් 95 දෙනෙකු ජීවිතක්ෂයට පත්ව ඇති බවත්, තවත් 400කට වැඩි පිරිසක් අතුරුදන්ව ඇති බවත් එරට බලධාරීන් ප්‍රකාශ කරයි.

අතුරුදන් වූවන් අතර සංචාරකයන් ලෙස පැමිණි විදේශිකයන් 291 දෙනෙකු සිටින බව නේපාල සංචාරක මණ්ඩලය තහවුරු කර තිබේ. ඒ අතර ඉන්දියානුවන් 142ක්, මැලේසියානුවන් 17ක්, බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ජාතිකයන් 12ක්, දකුණු කොරියානුවන් 8ක් සහ ඇමෙරිකානුවන් තිදෙනෙකු ද වන බව වාර්තා වේ. සෙසු පිරිසගේ අනන්‍යතාවය මෙතෙක් තහවුරු කර නොමැත.

නේපාල විදේශ අමාත්‍ය ශිෂීර් ඛානල් මහතා පවසන්නේ භූමිකම්පාවක් හේතුවෙන් ඇති වූ දැවැන්ත නායයෑමක් මගින් 'භෝටේ කෝෂි' ගංගාව අවහිර වීම මෙම හදිසි ගංවතුරට හේතු වූ බවයි. ගංගාව අවහිර වීමෙන් එක් රැස් වූ අතිවිශාල ජල කඳ එකවර මුදා හැරීමෙන් පහත්බිම්වල පිහිටි ගම්මාන රැසක් ජලයෙන් යට වී තිබේ.

මෙම ජල පහරට හසුව නිවාස, මාර්ග, පාලම් සහ විදුලි බලාගාරවලට දැඩි හානි සිදුව ඇත. නේපාල විදුලිබල අධිකාරිය සඳහන් කළේ ප්‍රධාන ජල විදුලි බලාගාර හයක් සහ සම්ප්‍රේෂණ පද්ධති ගංවතුරෙන් විනාශ වී ඇති බවයි.

Tragic Flash Floods Claim Lives and Leave Hundreds Missing in Nepal

In a devastating turn of events, flash floods triggered by a sudden surge of water flowing through the Himalayan foothills near Nepal's northern borders have resulted in at least 18 fatalities, with over 400 individuals reported missing, according to local authorities.

Among the missing are 291 foreign tourists, as confirmed by the Nepal Tourism Board. The affected group includes 142 Indians, 17 Malaysians, 12 British nationals, 8 South Koreans, and 3 Americans, though the identities of the remaining individuals have yet to be verified.

Nepal's Foreign Minister, Shisir Khanal, revealed that the catastrophic flooding was caused by a massive landslide triggered by a recent earthquake, which blocked the 'Bote Kosi' river. This blockage led to an immense buildup of water that was suddenly released, inundating several low-lying villages.

The deluge has caused significant damage to homes, roads, bridges, and power plants. The Nepal Electricity Authority reported that six major hydropower plants and transmission systems have been destroyed due to the floods.

Videos circulating on social media depict massive structures and bridges being swept away by the powerful waters.

The districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading, located north of Kathmandu, have been severely impacted. The rugged topography of the region has complicated relief efforts, with reports indicating that helicopters are unable to land in certain areas, making access for aid services extremely challenging, as reported by Reuters.

Nepal's President, Ram Chandra Poudel, expressed deep sorrow over the disaster and urged the government and citizens to accelerate relief operations. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal revealed that relief efforts are being coordinated with the Red Cross and medical teams to provide assistance.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has also been instructed to closely monitor the situation in the bordering Indian states.
