කැලණි ගඟ ද්රෝණියේ ඉහළ සහ මධ්යම ධාරා ප්රදේශවලට ඇද හැලෙන අධික වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් ඉදිරි පැය 24 තුළ මහා ගංවතුර තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිවීමේ දැඩි අවදානමක් පවතින බව වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව නිවේදනය කරයි. මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් වහාම ක්රියාත්මක වන පරිදි ‘රතු’ වර්ණයෙන් යුත් ගංවතුර අනතුරු ඇඟවීමේ නිවේදනය නිකුත් කර තිබේ.
වාරිමාර්ග අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල් ඉංජිනේරු ආචාර්ය කිත්සිරි වැලිගෙපොලගේ මහතාගේ අත්සනින් යුතුව නිකුත් කරන ලද මෙම නිවේදනය හෙට (04) පස්වරු 1.30 දක්වා බලපැවැත්වේ.
වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ කැලණි ගඟ ද්රෝණියේ දෙහිඕවිට, රුවන්වැල්ල සහ යටියන්තොට යන ප්රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසවලට අයත් පහත්බිම් ප්රදේශවලට මෙම මහා ගංවතුර අවදානම සෘජුවම බලපාන බවයි.
දැනට පවතින අධි තීව්රතාවයකින් යුත් වර්ෂාපතනය තවදුරටත් පැවතිය හැකි බවට කාලගුණ අනාවැකි පළ වී ඇති අතර, එමගින් ගඟේ ජල මට්ටම ක්ෂණිකව සහ ශීඝ්රයෙන් ඉහළ යා හැකි බව දත්ත විශ්ලේෂණ මගින් තහවුරු වී ඇත.
එබැවින්, අදාළ ප්රදේශවල පදිංචි මහජනතාව, ගඟ පරිහරණය කරන්නන් සහ එම ප්රදේශ හරහා ගමන් ගන්නා රියදුරන් පවතින තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව දැඩි සැලකිල්ලකින් සහ විමසිල්ලෙන් පසුවිය යුතු බවට වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව අවධාරණය කරයි.
පවතින අවදානම සැලකිල්ලට ගෙන අවශ්ය පූර්ව ආරක්ෂිත පියවර ගන්නා ලෙස ආපදා කළමනාකරණ අංශවලින් ද ඉල්ලීමක් කර තිබේ.
Severe Flood Risk Looms Over Kelani River Basin Following Heavy Rainfall
The Department of Irrigation has issued a critical alert regarding the Kelani River basin, predicting a significant flood situation within the next 24 hours due to intense rain affecting the upper and middle reaches of the river. A 'red' flood warning has been officially announced to prompt immediate action.
This urgent notification, signed by Director General Engineer Kithsiri Waligepola, will remain in effect until 1:30 PM tomorrow (April 4).
The department specifies that low-lying areas in the Divisional Secretariat divisions of Dehiowita, Ruwanwella, and Yatiyanthota are directly threatened by the impending severe flooding.
Weather forecasts indicate that the ongoing heavy rainfall could persist, which data analysis confirms may cause rapid and significant increases in the river's water levels.
Authorities are urging residents in the affected areas, river users, and motorists traveling through these regions to remain acutely aware of the prevailing conditions.
In light of the anticipated risks, disaster management agencies have called for necessary preemptive safety measures to be taken.
