පැරණි ක‍්‍රමයට පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණයට සියළු පක්‍ෂ එකගයි.. ඒත් මැතිවරණය නෑ..

 

පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණය කඩිනමින් පැවැත්වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් ආණ්ඩුව දේශපාලනික තීන්දුවක් ගත යුතු බව, පැෆරල් සංවිධානයේ විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ රෝහණ හෙට්ටිආරච්චි මහතා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

පැරණි ක්‍රමයට මෙම මැතිවරණය පැවැත්වීම සඳහා දේශපාලන පක්ෂ එකඟතාවට පැමිණ තිබියදී රජය එය මඟ හැර කටයුතු කිරීම ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී නොවන බවද හෙතෙම පැවසීය.

ආණ්ඩුව ඡන්ද පැවැත්වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් එදා විපක්ෂයේ සිටියදී සටන්කාමී මැදිහත්වීම් සිදු කර ඇති බවත්, ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රතිපත්ති ප්‍රකාශයේද සඳහන් කර ඇති ආකාරයට, ඡන්ද නියමිත වෙලාවේ පැවැත්වීම, රටේ ජනතාවගේ ඡන්ද අයිතියට ගරු කිරීමක් වනු ඇති බවත් ඒ මහතා කීය.

“පවතින පළාත් සභා ක්‍රමය හොඳ නැත්නම් එය අහෝසි කිරීමට ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනයකට යා යුතුයි. නැතිනම් මේ පවතින ක්‍රමය යටතේ මැතිවරණය පැවැත්විය යුතුයි. රජය යම් ආකාරයකට ඊට සූදානම් නම්, ඉතා කෙටි කාලයකින් පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණය පැවැත්විය හැකියි.

ඡන්දය පැවැත්වීම වෙනුවෙන් මේ වනවිට පුද්ගලික මන්ත්‍රී යෝජනා දෙකක්ද තිබෙනවා. නමුත් පළාත් සභා ඡන්දය පැවැත්වීම සඳහා විපක්ෂය ද අඛණ්ඩව මැදිහත්විය යුතුව තිබෙනවා. ඒ සඳහා නැවත නැවත පුද්ගලික යෝජනා ගෙන ඒමේ හැකියාව පවතිනවා. වඩා වැදගත් වන්නේ, රජය ඡන්ද පැවැත්වීමේදී ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදීවීම” යැයි ඔහු කීවේය.

Call for Urgent Local Government Elections By Political Leader

Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the Pathfinder Foundation, has emphasized that the government must make a political decision regarding the timely conduct of local government elections.

During a recent discussion, he noted that while political parties had reached a consensus to hold the elections through traditional means, the government's deviation from this agreement was not a democratic approach.

Addressing the supposed violence obstructing the voting process from the opposition, he highlighted that conducting elections as scheduled would honor the voting rights of the citizens. He remarked that if the current local government system is deemed inadequate, it should be subject to constitutional amendment. Otherwise, elections must proceed under the existing framework. He asserted that the government could feasibly conduct local elections within a short timeframe if properly prepared.

Currently, there are two private members' proposals concerning the conduct of the elections. However, he pointed out the necessity for the opposition to remain actively engaged in ensuring the local government elections take place. He reiterated that the potential for repeated private proposals exists, but most importantly, the government must preserve democratic principles during the election process.
