මිහිඳු මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ ලංකාවට වැඩියේ දැයි ප්රකාශ කිරීමට පිළිගත හැකි මූලාශ්ර නොමැති බව කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ ඉතිහාස අධ්යයනාංශයේ මහාචාර්ය නිර්මාල් රංජිත් දේවසිරි මහතා පවසයි.
"මිහිඳු හාමුදුරුවෝ කියලා කෙනෙක් ඉන්න ඇති. අපි දන්නේ නෑ එයා උඩින් අතනට ආවද, කොහොම ආවද ඒවා අපි දන්නෑ. එයාට අශෝකට තියෙන නෑ කමක් අපි හරියට දන්නෑ.
ලංකාවේ මහාවංශේ විතරයි ඒවා ගැන විස්තර තියෙන්නේ. ඉන්දියාවේ එ් ගැන මූලාශ්ර නෑ. සමහර විට ඒ වගේ සම්බන්ධතා තියෙන්නත් ඇති. අපි දන්නෑ ඒවා. දැනට කියන්න පුළුවන් දන්නෑ කියලා විතරයි."
මහාචාර්ය නිර්මාල් රංජිත් දේවසිරි මහතා මේ බව ප්රකාශ කරන්නේ අන්තර්ජාල නාලිකාවක් සමග සාකච්ඡාවට එකතු වෙමිනි.
Scholar Questions Historical Sources on Mihindu Maha Rahathun's Arrival in Sri Lanka
Prof. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri from the Department of History at the University of Colombo has stated that there are no credible sources to definitively assert that Mihindu Maha Rahathun ever set foot in Sri Lanka.
"It is possible that a figure referred to as Mihindu exists, but the specifics of how he arrived here remain unclear. There is no concrete evidence regarding any connection with Ashoka," he pointed out, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding historical accounts.
He noted that the Mahavamsa is the only significant text that provides details on this matter in Sri Lanka, while there are no records in India regarding such connections. "There might have been relationships established, but we have no knowledge of them. For now, all we can say is that we are unsure," he added.
Prof. Dewasiri made these remarks during a discussion on an online platform.
