කදුකරයේ එළවළු වගා විනාශයි...

 පසුගිය දින කිහිපය තුල මධ්‍යම කදුකරයට ඇදහැලුණු අධික වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් තම එළවලු වගාවට දැඩි ලෙස හානි සිදු වී ඇති බව හැටන් රුවන්පුර ජනපදයේ එළවලු වගා ගොවීන් කියා සිටියි.

ජීවන උපාය වශයෙන් එළවලු වගාව සිදු කරන හැටන් රුවන්පුර ජනපදයේ පදිංචිකරුවන් තම ඉඩම්වල යල සහ මහ කන්න දෙකේම අමු මිරිස්, නයි මිරිස්, ගෝවා, කැරට්, රාබු, මාළු මිරිස් වලාව සාර්ථකව සිදු කරන බවත්, පසුගිය දිනවල ඇදහැලුණු අධික වර්සාව හේතුවෙන් එම එළවලු වගාවේ අස්වැන්න නෙළීමට ආසන්නව තිබියදි එම වගාව විනාශ වී ගිය බවයි එම ගොවීන් කියා සිටියේ.

එසේ විනාශ වූ එළවලු වගාවෙන් පසු යලිත් එළවලු පැළ රෝපණය කලද එසේ සිටවූ පැළද තව දුරටත් පවතින වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් කුණු විගොස් ඇති බවත්, එම එළවලු වගාව වර්ෂාවෙන් ආරක්ෂා කිරිමට කිසිදු රාසායනික ද්‍රව්‍යක් නොමැති බවයි එම ජනතාව කියා සිටියේ.

තවද, තම ජනපදයෙ එළවලු වගා භුමියේ ඇතැම් ස්ථානවල පස වැඩි ජලයට ගසාගෙන ගොස් ඇති බවත්, එසේ පස් ගසාගෙන ගිය ස්ථානවලට යලිත් පස් පුරවා එළවලු වගා භූමිය සකස් කිරිමට සිදු වූ බවත්, තමන්ට සිදු වූ ආපදාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් සොයා බැලීමට රජයේ කිසිදු වග කියයුතු නිළධාරියෙක් නොපැමිණි බවයි හැටන් රුවන්පුර ජනපදයේ එළවලු වගාව ජීවනෝපායක් වශයෙන් සිදු කරගෙන යන ජනතාව කියා සිටියේ.

Heavy Rains Devastate Vegetable Farms in Hatton-Ruwanpura

Farmers in the Hatton-Ruwanpura area have reported significant damage to their vegetable crops due to relentless heavy rains in the central highlands over the past few days. The adverse weather conditions have left many growers struggling to assess the extent of their losses.

The local community relies heavily on vegetable farming as a source of income, with a focus on cultivating various crops including raw and green chilies, cabbages, carrots, and tomatoes. Farmers revealed that just when their harvest was approaching maturity, the torrential rains destroyed their crops.

Although some farmers attempted to replant vegetables after the destruction, they are now facing further setbacks due to ongoing rainfall, which has led to poor seedling growth. Many expressed frustration over their inability to protect their farms, citing a lack of access to necessary agricultural chemicals and protective measures.

In addition to crop loss, some farmland in the area has been inundated, requiring farmers to undertake extensive work to rehabilitate the soil for future planting. Reports suggest that in many locations, excess water has severely compromised soil conditions.

Despite these hardships, growers noted that nobody from the government has visited the area to assess the damage or offer assistance, raising concerns about the lack of support for those who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.
