 ගොවි ජනතාව නිෂ්පාදනය කරන වී කිලෝවක් සඳහා ප්‍රමාණවත් සහ සාධාරණ මිලක් ලබා දීමට රජයට මෙතෙක් නොහැකි වී ඇති බව කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍ය ලාල් කාන්ත මහතා පවසයි.

ජන හමුවක් අමතමින් අමාත්‍යවරයා මේ බව සඳහන් කළේ, වී මිල සම්බන්ධයෙන් පවතින වත්මන් අර්බුදය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වමිනි.

වී අලෙවියේදී පවතින ගැටලුකාරී තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ අමාත්‍යවරයා, සහල් මිල අඩුවීම පාරිභෝගිකයාට වාසිදායක වුවද, ඒ හරහා වී මිල පහත වැටීම වැළැක්විය නොහැකි වී ඇති බව පෙන්වා දුන්නේය. මේ වන විට වෙළඳපොළේ වී මිල රුපියල් 85 සිට 110 දක්වා විවිධ මට්ටම්වල පවතින බවත්, එය ගොවියාට ප්‍රමාණවත් නොවන බවත් ඔහු පිළිගත්තේය.

"අප රජය භාර ගන්නා විට වී අලෙවි මණ්ඩලය වසා දමා තිබුණා. රජය මැදිහත් වී වී මිලදී ගැනීමේ ක්‍රියාවලියක් තිබුණේ නැහැ. නමුත් දැන් අපි වී අලෙවි මණ්ඩලය හරහා නාඩු වී කිලෝවක් රුපියල් 120කටත්, සම්බා 130කටත්, කීරි සම්බා 140කටත් මිලදී ගැනීම ආරම්භ කර තිබෙනවා. කෙසේ වෙතත්, රජය මිලදී ගන්නා ප්‍රමාණය තවමත් ප්‍රමාණවත් නැහැ," යනුවෙන් අමාත්‍යවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.

වී මිලදී ගැනීමේ ක්‍රියාවලිය ශක්තිමත් කිරීම සඳහා රජය ගෙන ඇති නව පියවර පිළිබඳවද අමාත්‍යවරයා කරුණු පැහැදිලි කළේය. ඒ අනුව, සුළු හා මධ්‍ය පරිමාණ වී මෝල් හිමියන් සඳහා රජයේ භාණ්ඩාගාරය හරහා පොලී රහිත ණය ලබා දීමට තීරණය කර ඇත. එක් මෝල් හිමියෙකුට රුපියල් කෝටි 2.5ක උපරිමයකට යටත්ව මෙම ණය මුදල් ලබා දෙන අතර, ඔවුන් රජය නියම කරන සහතික මිලට ගොවීන්ගෙන් වී මිලදී ගත යුතු බවට කොන්දේසි පනවා තිබේ.

ගොවීන් මුහුණ දෙන ප්‍රධානතම ගැටලුවක් වන වීවල තෙතමනය පිළිබඳව අදහස් දක්වමින් අමාත්‍යවරයා කියා සිටියේ, තෙතමනය සහිත වී නිසා ගොවියාට විශාල පාඩුවක් සිදුවන බවයි. මේ සඳහා විසඳුමක් ලෙස ගොවි සමිති මට්ටමින් නවීන තාක්ෂණික වියළන යන්ත්‍ර හඳුන්වා දීමට රජය කටයුතු කළ යුතු බව ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

එමෙන්ම, ගොවි ජනතාවගේ ආර්ථිකය ශක්තිමත් කිරීම සඳහා ඔවුන් වී වගාවටම පමණක් සීමා නොවී ආදායම් මාර්ග විවිධාංගීකරණය කරගත යුතු බවද අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී යෝජනා කළේය. රජයක මූලික වගකීම වන්නේ ජනතාවගේ ලෞකික ජීවිතය, එනම් ආහාර, ඇඳුම් පැළඳුම්, අධ්‍යාපනය සහ විනෝදය වැනි අංශ සාර්ථක කර දීම බවත්, ඒ වෙනුවෙන් රජය උපරිමයෙන් කැපවන බවත් ලාල් කාන්ත මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.

Minister Highlights Challenges in Ensuring Fair Prices for Farmers' Rice Production

The Sri Lankan government has yet to provide a satisfactory and fair price for a kilogram of rice produced by farmers, Agriculture Minister Lal Kantha revealed during a public meeting. His remarks emphasized the ongoing crisis surrounding rice pricing in the country.

Addressing the audience, the Minister pointed out the complex issues currently plaguing rice sales. While the reduction in rice prices benefits consumers, he noted that it inevitably leads to a decline in prices for the farmers as well. He acknowledged that rice prices in the market fluctuate between 85 to 110 rupees, which is inadequate for farmers' livelihood.

"When our government came to power, the rice sales authority was already closed. There was no state intervention in the rice purchasing process at that time. However, we have now started purchasing nadu rice at 120 rupees per kilogram, samba at 130 rupees, and keeri samba at 140 rupees. Nevertheless, the amount the government is currently buying is still insufficient," he stated.

The Minister provided insights into new measures being implemented by the government to strengthen the rice purchasing process. This includes plans to offer interest-free loans through the state treasury to small and medium rice mill owners. Each mill owner can access a maximum loan of 2.5 million rupees, with a stipulation that they must purchase rice from farmers at the price set by the government.

On the issue of moisture content in rice—a significant challenge for farmers—the Minister acknowledged that high moisture levels result in substantial losses for producers. He stressed the importance of introducing advanced drying technology at the cooperative level as a viable solution.

Additionally, he suggested that farmers should diversify their income sources and not limit themselves to rice cultivation alone to strengthen their economic situation. The Minister reinforced that the primary responsibility of a government is to enhance the public's quality of life, ensuring success in aspects such as food security, clothing, education, and entertainment, underscoring the government’s commitment to that end.
