මුහුදු මතුපිට ජලයේ උෂ්ණත්වය ඉහළ යාම හේතුවෙන් මත්ස්ය ගහනය ගැඹුරු මුහුද දෙසට සංක්රමණය වීම මෙම අස්වැන්න අඩුවීමට සෘජුවම බලපා ඇති බව අමාත්යවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.
පවතින තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව විද්යාත්මකව සොයා බැලීම සඳහා ජාතික ජලජ සම්පත් පර්යේෂණ හා සංවර්ධන නියෝජිතායතනයේ (NARA) සභාපතිවරයා ඇතුළු පර්යේෂකයන් සමග විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවක් පවත්වා ඇති අතර, මාස තුනක් ඇතුළත මේ පිළිබඳ පූර්ණ පර්යේෂණ වාර්තාවක් ලබා දෙන ලෙස අදාළ අංශවලට උපදෙස් දී තිබේ.
මේ අතර, පවතින දුෂ්කරතා හමුවේ පීඩාවට පත් ධීවර ජනතාවට සහන සැලසීමට රජය කටයුතු කරමින් සිටින බව ද අමාත්යවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.
ඒ අනුව, කෙටි කාලීන සහනයක් ලෙස සුළු පන්න ධීවරයන් සඳහා මාසිකව රුපියල් 31,250 බැගින් මාස තුනක් සඳහා රුපියල් 93,750ක සහනාධාරයක් ද, බහුදින ධීවරයන් සඳහා රුපියල් ලක්ෂයක එක්වරක් ලබා දෙන සහනාධාරයක් ද පිරිනැමීමට පියවර ගෙන ඇත.
දැනටමත් සුදුසුකම් ලත් ධීවරයන්ගෙන් සියයට 80කට වැඩි පිරිසකට මෙම සහනාධාර මුදල් ලබා දී අවසන් බව ද නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය රත්න ගමගේ මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පවසා ඇත.
Fish Catch in Sri Lanka Declines Due to El Niño Weather Patterns
The El Niño weather phenomenon has significantly impacted the fish catch along Sri Lanka's maritime boundaries, resulting in a notable rise in fish prices in the market, according to Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Ratna Gamagé.
He explained that the increase in surface water temperatures has led to a migration of fish towards deeper waters, directly contributing to the declining fish yields.
To gain a deeper understanding of the current situation, a special discussion was held with researchers, including the Chairman of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA). The authorities have been instructed to provide a comprehensive research report within three months.
Meanwhile, the Minister noted that the government is working to assist the fishing community, which is facing immense hardships due to the prevailing conditions.
As part of the short-term relief measures, support includes a monthly grant of LKR 31,250 for small-scale fishermen for three months, totaling LKR 93,750, as well as a one-time assistance payment of LKR 100,000 for multi-day fishermen.
He further added that over 80% of eligible fishermen have already received these assistance funds.
