මෙරට සිදුවන රිය අනතුරුවලින් වැඩිම මරණ සංඛ්‍යාවක් වාර්තා වන යතුරුපැදි අනතුරු අවම කිරීම සඳහා යතුරුපැදිවලට පමණක් වෙන්වූ විශේෂ මංතීරුවක් හඳුන්වා දීමට රජය තීරණය කර ඇති බව ප්‍රවාහන, මහාමාර්ග, වරාය සහ සිවිල් ගුවන් සේවා අමාත්‍ය බිමල් රත්නායක මහතා පවසයි.

අමාත්‍යවරයා පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ වසරකට යතුරුපැදි අනතුරුවලින් පුද්ගල මරණ 1000කට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක් සිදුවන අතර, තවත් විශාල පිරිසක් සදාකාලික ආබාධිත තත්ත්වයට පත්වන බවයි.

මෙම තත්ත්වය පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා මැලේසියාව වැනි රටවල් අනුගමනය කරන සාර්ථක ක්‍රමවේදයන් මෙරටට ද හඳුන්වා දීමට අපේක්ෂා කරන බව ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.

ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගවල අඩි 6ක් සහ 9ක් අතර පළලකින් යුත් මංතීරුවක් යතුරුපැදි සඳහා පමණක් වෙන් කෙරේ. වෙනත් වාහනවලට මෙම මංතීරුවට ඇතුළු විය නොහැකි පරිදි තාක්ෂණික ක්‍රමවේදයන් මගින් එය වෙන් කිරීමට සැලසුම් කර ඇත. පළමු අදියර යටතේ නාගරික ආශ්‍රිත 'A' සහ 'B' ශ්‍රේණියේ මාර්ගවල මෙය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට නියමිතය.

මෙම වැඩපිළිවෙළේ නියමු ව්‍යාපෘතිය මඩකලපුව දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ කළුවංචිකුඩි නගරයෙන් ආරම්භ කිරීමට දැනටමත් සැලසුම් සකස් කර අවසන් බව අමාත්‍යවරයා අනාවරණය කළේය. මැලේසියාවේ මෙවැනි මංතීරු හඳුන්වා දීමෙන් යතුරුපැදි අනතුරු මරණ සියයට 70කින් පමණ අඩු කර ගැනීමට හැකි වී ඇති බවද ඔහු මෙහිදී සිහිපත් කළේය.

මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සාර්ථක කර ගැනීම සඳහා නගරාධිපතිවරුන්, ප්‍රාදේශීය සභා සභාපතිවරුන්, ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරුන් සහ මහජන නියෝජිතයන් හරහා තම ප්‍රදේශවලට අදාළ යෝජනා දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම්වරුන් වෙත යොමු කරන ලෙස අමාත්‍යවරයා ඉල්ලා සිටියි.

"පාරවල් අයිති රෝද හතරේ වාහනවලට විතරක් නෙවෙයි, රෝද දෙකේ වාහන පාවිච්චි කරන අතිමහත් බහුතරයකටත් පාරේ අයිතිය තියෙනවා. ඒ නිසා ඔවුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව වෙනුවෙන් මුදල් වෙන් කිරීමට රජය සූදානම්," යැයි අමාත්‍ය බිමල් රත්නායක මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කළේය.

Government to Introduce Dedicated Lanes for Motorcycles Amid Rising Fatalities

The Sri Lankan government has decided to implement special lanes exclusively for motorcycles in a bid to reduce the alarming number of fatalities caused by motorcycle accidents. Transportation Minister Bimal Ratnayake revealed this initiative, highlighting the growing urgency to address the issue.

According to the minister, over 1,000 individuals lose their lives in motorcycle-related accidents each year, with many more sustaining life-altering injuries. The government aims to introduce effective measures similar to those successfully employed in countries like Malaysia, known for their successful traffic management strategies.

The proposed motorcycle lanes will span 6 to 9 feet wide on major roads, designed to be accessible only to motorcycles. Advanced technical mechanisms will ensure that other vehicles cannot enter these designated paths. The initial phase of the project will commence on classified routes 'A' and 'B' in urban areas, setting the stage for safer travel.

Minister Ratnayake also disclosed that plans are already in place to launch this project in the Kaluwanchikudi area of the Ampara District. He further noted that Malaysia's implementation of similar lanes has led to a remarkable 70% reduction in motorcycle accident fatalities.

To ensure the project's success, the minister urged mayors, local council chairpersons, divisional secretaries, and public representatives to submit relevant proposals through district secretaries, tailored to their respective regions.

"Road ownership extends beyond just four-wheeled vehicles; a significant majority of road users rely on motorcycles for transportation. Therefore, the government is prepared to allocate funds to enhance their safety," emphasized Minister Bimal Ratnayake.
