 ගොවීන්ගෙන් වී මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා රජය මේ වනවිට ප්‍රකාශයට පත්කර ඇති මිල කිසිසේත්ම තවත් ඉහළ දැමීමේ හැකියාවක් නොමැති බවත්, රටේ නිෂ්පාදනය කරන වී සියල්ලම මිලදී ගැනීමේ හැකියාවක් ද රජයට නැති බවත් කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්‍ය කේ.ඩී. ලාල් කාන්ත පවසයි. 

වැඩසටහනකින් අනතුරුව මාධ්‍යට අදහස් දක්වමින් ඔහු මේ බව පැවසීය.

දැන් ගොවීන්ට බලපාලා තියෙන ගැටලුව තමයි රජයේ ප්‍රකාශිත මිල වූ රුපියල් 120 ට වී අලෙවි කිරීමට නොහැකි වීම, ඒ ගාණට වී ගන්න කෙනෙක් නැති වීම, අපි නාඩු වී කිලෝවක් රුපියල් 120, සම්බා කිලෝවක් රුපියල් 130 හා කීරි සම්බා කිලෝවක් 140 ක් වශයෙන් වී මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා නිසි මිලක් ලබාදීලා කටයුතු කළත් රටේ නිෂ්පාදනය කරන වී සියල්ලම මිලදී ගැනීමේ හැකියාවක් රජයට නෑ. ඒ නිසා තමයි අපි දැන් සුළු හා මධ්‍ය පරිමාණ වී මෝල් හිමියන් බලගන්වමින් සිටින්නේ. මේ වන විට අක්‍රිය වෙලා තියෙන සුළු හා මධ්‍ය පරිමාණ මෝල් ජාලයට පණ දෙන්න අපි කටයුතු කරගෙන යනවා. ඒ අයට පොලී රහිත ණය ලබාදෙන්න කටයුතු කරලා තියෙන්නේ. එතකොට මේ අය ඒ ණය ලබාගෙන රජයේ ප්‍රකාශිත මිලට වී මිලදී ගත යුතුයි.

ඉදිරියේදී එනවා කියන එල්නිනෝ කාලගුණ විපර්යාසයේ අභියෝග ජයගන්න මේ වන විටත් අපි අදාළ සියලුම අංශ එකතු වෙලා සැලසුම් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරලා තියෙනවා. ඒ අනුව ඉදිරි මහ කන්නය සති දෙකක් කලින් පටන් ගන්න කටයුතු කරනවා.

Minister K.D. Lal Kantha Addresses Rice Pricing Challenges

The Sri Lankan government has no plans to increase the purchase price of rice from farmers, a situation highlighted by Minister of Agriculture K.D. Lal Kantha. He expressed that the government currently lacks the capacity to buy all the rice produced in the country.

Speaking to the media following a scheduled event, the minister elaborated on the hurdles faced by farmers, particularly the inability to sell rice at the government-announced price of 120 rupees per kilogram due to a lack of buyers.

Despite efforts to purchase different varieties of rice—Nadu at 120 rupees per kilogram, Samba at 130 rupees, and Keeri Samba at 140 rupees—the minister confirmed that the government cannot guarantee the procurement of all domestically produced rice. "Therefore, we are currently focusing on supporting small and medium-scale rice mill owners, who have been inactive recently," he said.

To assist these mill owners, the government is facilitating interest-free loans aimed at enabling them to purchase rice at the government-mandated price. This initiative is expected to improve market activity and support local farmers.

Minister Kantha also noted that preparations are underway to tackle the challenges posed by the impending El Niño weather phenomenon, with relevant sectors collaborating on a coordinated plan. Actions are set to begin two weeks prior to the next major harvest season.
