Internal Police Investigation Launched Over Drug Seizure at Colombo Port

An internal investigation has been initiated following allegations of discrepancies and potential misconduct concerning a seizure of illegal drugs hidden in two containers imported from Pakistan and currently held at the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT). This action was ordered by Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya.

The Police Special Investigation Unit is already active in conducting this internal review, as confirmed by the Police Media Division.

However, authorities have emphasized that this internal inquiry will not impede the principal investigation activities related to the seized containers and the smuggled drug shipment.

Additionally, the ongoing primary investigation is being conducted transparently and continuously by the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (CCIB), as further stated in the announcement by the Police Media Division.
