“සත්‍යය දිනවමු, හොරුත්, බොරුත් පරදවමු” මැයෙන් ජනතාවාදී ඒකාබද්ධ විපක්ෂය සංවිධානය කරන ලද සම්මන්ත්‍රණ මාලාවේ 6 වැන්න ගාල්ල නගර ශාලාවේදී පැවැති අවස්ථාවේදී ඔහු මෙම අදහස් පළ කළේය.

Patali Champika Ranawaka Accuses Government of Obstruction in Arjun Mahendran’s Return

Former Central Bank Governor Arjun Mahendran's return to Sri Lanka has been hindered by a secret deal within the government, claims Patali Champika Ranawaka, leader of the United National Front. He revealed that the individual who pressured Mahendran to inflate bond prices is currently residing with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Speaking at the sixth session of a conference organized by the Democratic United Opposition in Galle, Ranawaka underscored the need for truth and accountability in the face of corruption. “Let us defeat both thieves and lies,” he declared emphatically.

Ranawaka elaborated further on the ramifications of the situation, stressing that following the current administrative collapse, the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank have become embroiled in scandals. He argued that, despite Mahendran's alleged name change to Alexander as a ruse, the overwhelming evidence he has provided remains a critical factor. “If they are serious about catching thieves, political theatrics must be set aside,” he asserted.

Highlighting the dire financial state of the nation, Ranawaka criticized the government for its apparent mismanagement, stating, “The treasury is depleted. Funds that should be circulating are vanished. Is there money in your wallet? No. Is there money in your pocket? No.”

Ranawaka drew attention to a statement made by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who alleged that for every liter of petrol sold at Rs. 280, Rs. 160 was siphoned off by Kanchnar Wijesekera. He questioned whether citizens can still purchase petrol for Rs. 120 amidst rising costs. Furthermore, he challenged the promised electricity rate reductions, stating that rates have surged by 54% instead of decreasing as promised.

He also lamented the consequences of corruption in the coal procurement process, which has led to the closure of one of the power plants. He iterated that while diesel is being used to keep operations running, the Ceylon Electricity Board is seeking a staggering Rs. 1.5 billion every month. “These funds are coming from everyday necessities such as bread, milk powder, sugar, and your own hard-earned money,” he concluded, urging for transparency and accountability in the national treasury.
