සෙවනගල සීනි කර්මාන්තශාලාවේ සේවක වර්ජනය සහ උක් වගාවේ පවතින ගැටලු සම්බන්ධයෙන් සාකච්ඡා කිරීමට කැඳවා තිබූ විශේෂ හමුවට කර්මාන්ත අමාත්ය සුනිල් හඳුන්නෙත්ති මහතා සහභාගී නොවීම හේතුවෙන් උක් ගොවි සංවිධාන නියෝජිතයෝ සිය දැඩි අසතුට පළ කරති.
අමාත්යවරයා අසනීප තත්ත්වයෙන් පසුවන බව දන්වමින් මෙම සාකච්ඡාව සඳහා අමාත්යාංශ ලේකම්වරිය සහභාගී වී ඇති අතර, එහිදී සේවක වැටුප් ගැටලුව සම්බන්ධයෙන් යම් එකඟතාවක් ඇති වුවද ගොවීන්ගේ ප්රශ්නවලට නිසි විසඳුම් නොලැබුණු බව ගොවි නියෝජිතයෝ පවසති.
සාකච්ඡාවෙන් අනතුරුව මාධ්ය වෙත අදහස් දැක්වූ ගොවිසෙත ඒකාබද්ධ ගොවි බලමණ්ඩලයේ භාණ්ඩාගාරික ප්රියන්ත මහතා මෙසේ පැවසීය.
"අපි මෙතනට ආවේ ඇමතිතුමා හම්බවෙන්න. නමුත් එතුමා හිටියේ නැහැ. අද වෙනකොට උක් ගොවියා දැවැන්ත ප්රශ්න රැසකට මුහුණ දීලා ඉන්නවා. වගාවට අවශ්ය තෙල් ටික නැහැ, පොහොර සහ වල්නාශක නැහැ. මාස 12න් කපන්න ඕන උක් ගස් අද මාස 36ක් වෙලා. ටොන් 4,000ක් විතර අව්වට වේලෙනවා. ටොන් එකක් කපන්න රුපියල් 4,500ක් යනවා, නමුත් අපිට ලැබෙන්නේ රුපියල් 10,000කටත් අඩු මුදලක්. ලේකම්තුමිය මේ ප්රශ්නවලට දාර්ශනික උත්තර දුන්නට බිමේ තියෙන ප්රශ්නවලට විසඳුම් ලැබුණේ නැහැ."
උක් ගොවියන්ගේ සුබසාධන සංගමයේ ලේකම් පී.කේ. පතිරණ මහතා සඳහන් කළේ සේවකයන්ගේ වැටුප් විෂමතා සම්බන්ධයෙන් ලේකම්වරිය පොරොන්දුවක් ලබාදුන් බවයි.
2027 ජනවාරි මාසය වන විට වැටුප් වැඩි කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත්, එතෙක් වර්ජනය අතහැර රාජකාරි වාර්තා කරන ලෙසත් ඇය ඉල්ලා සිටි බව ඔහු පැවසීය.
කෙසේ වෙතත්, මෙම තීරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන් සෙසු සේවකයන් දැනුවත් කර අවසන් තීරණයක් ගන්නා බව සේවක නියෝජිතයෝ පවසති.
මෙම සාකච්ඡාව සඳහා අමාත්යාංශ ලේකම්වරියට අමතරව, සෙවනගල සීනි සමාගමේ පාලනාධිකාරිය, උක් ප්රවාහන සංගමයේ නියෝජිතයන් සහ ගොවි සංවිධාන නායකයන් පිරිසක් සහභාගී වූහ.
පවතින අර්බුදය හේතුවෙන් උක් ගොවීන් මෙන්ම සේවකයන් ද දැඩි ආර්ථික අපහසුතාවන්ට පත්ව ඇති බැවින් රජය වහාම මැදිහත් වී ස්ථිර විසඳුමක් ලබාදිය යුතු බව ගොවි සංවිධාන වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කරයි.
Discontent Rises as Minister Skips Critical Meeting on Sugar Workers' Strike
Frustration among representatives of sugarcane farmers in Sevanagala has intensified following the absence of Minister of Industry, Sunil Handunnetti, from a crucial meeting intended to address ongoing worker strikes and various challenges faced in the sector.
Although the minister notified attendees that he is currently unwell, the meeting proceeded with the participation of the ministry's secretary. Discussions highlighted some progress regarding wage disputes; however, farmers expressed their concerns, stating that adequate solutions to their pressing issues remained elusive.
Priyantha, the treasurer of the United Farmers Alliance, expressed disappointment to the media after the discussions, stating, “We came here to meet the minister, but he was not present. Today, the sugarcane farmers are grappling with numerous significant problems. There is a shortfall of essential supplies needed for cultivation, such as fertilizers and pesticides. We are supposed to harvest sugarcane after 12 months, but it has been 36 months now. While the cost to harvest a ton is around 4,500 rupees, we are receiving less than 10,000 rupees, which is insufficient. Although the secretary provided theoretical answers, no practical solutions have been offered for the issues on the ground."
P.K. Pathirana, the secretary of the Sugarcane Farmers' Welfare Association, revealed that the ministry's secretary had offered assurances regarding wage disparities among workers, stating that steps would be taken to increase wages by January 2027. However, he urged workers to return to their duties in the meantime.
Despite the commitments made, representatives indicated they would consult other workers before reaching a final decision regarding the proposed actions.
Alongside the ministry secretary, the meeting was attended by representatives from the Sevanagala Sugar Company’s management, local transport unions, and several farmer organization leaders.
The agricultural unions emphasized the urgency for government intervention to provide a sustainable solution, as both farmers and workers continue to face severe economic hardships due to the prevailing crisis.
