This development comes just hours before Canada announced its plans to impose retaliatory tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of American goods. Trump threatened to prohibit the sale of Bombardier jets, a prominent Canadian aircraft manufacturer, within the United States.

Emphasizing his stance on social media platform 'Truth Social', Trump stated, "Sales of Bombardier planes in the U.S. must stop immediately. If they want access to our market, they must produce here. They need to stop acting like they own us."

Further amplifying his aggressive trade policy, Trump urged the Federal Reserve to reduce interest rates, warning that failure to do so could result in a complete cessation of trade relations with nations facing trade deficits with the U.S. He noted that countries such as Canada, Japan, and China could be affected, describing the move as "a stronger step" than simply imposing regular tariffs.

Previously, Trump's chief trade advisor, Robert Lighthizer, hinted that the U.S. could resort to entirely banning imports as a response to Canada's tariffs. Legal experts point out that the President possesses a robust legal foundation to implement such drastic measures, underscoring an established precedent set by the Supreme Court.

While the Emergency Economic Powers Act limits the imposition of tariffs, it has been noted that the power to completely ban imports lies clearly with the President. Additionally, provisions within the Tariff Act of 1930 under Section 338 allow for the prohibition of goods from specific countries.
