 වර්තමාන ඉඩම් පරිහරණ රටාවන් අනුව බලපෑමට ලක්ව ඇති ජල මූලාශ්‍ර සංරක්ෂණය කර ගැනීමේ එක් පියවරක් ලෙස වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව යටතේ පාලනය වන ප්‍රධාන වැව් වල සීමාවන් එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ මායිම් කණු යොදා නිශ්චිත ලෙස භූමියේ සලකුණු කිරීම සඳහා 'ක්ලීන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා' ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ 2025 වර්ෂයට අදාළව කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරි මාර්ග අමාත්‍යාංශය වෙතවෙන් කර ඇති රුපියල් මිලියන 100ක ප්‍රතිපාදන යොදා ගනිමින් වාර්මාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මඟින් ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම පිණිස 2025-06-16 දින අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩල අනුමැතිය ලබා දී තිබේ. 

ඒ අනුව, විවිධ බලපෑම්වලට ලක් වෙමින් පවතින තෝරාගත් වැව් 21 ක කාර්යයන් 2025 වර්ෂයේදී ආරම්භ කර ඇති අතර නුවර වැව, කන්තලේ වැව හා තිස්ස වැව යන වැව් 03 ට අදාළ සීමාවන් සලකුණු කර මායිම් කණු යෙදීමේ කටයුතු එම වර්ෂයේදීම අවසන් කර ඇත. 

මීට අමතරව ජාතික ක්‍රම සම්පාදන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අනුමැතිය හිමි වූ අදාළ ව්‍යාපෘති යෝජනාවේ ඇතුළත් වැව් 48න් වැඩ ආරම්භ නොකරන ලද ඉතිරි කාර්යයන් ඉදිරි වර්ෂ වලදී අවසන් කිරීමට නියමිතව තිබේ. 

ඒ අනුව, ඉතිරි වැව්වල මැනුම් කටයුතු සිදු කිරීම, මායිම් ගල් සැකසීම හා සවි කිරීම සහ රුක් රෝපණය ඇතුළුව 2025-2028 කාලසීමාව වෙනුවෙන් සමස්ත ව්‍යාපෘතිය සඳහා ඇස්තමේන්තුගත පිරිවැය රුපියල් මිලියන 400 ක් ලෙස ගණනය කරනු ලැබ ඇත. 

ඒ අනුව, එම ව්‍යාපෘතිය තවදුරටත් වාරිමාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව හරහා ක්‍රියාත්මක කරවීම පිණිස කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්‍යතුමා ඉදිරිපත් කළ යෝජනාව අමාත්‍ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් අනුමත කරන ලදී.

Government Approves Major Initiative to Safeguard Water Resources

In a significant step towards conserving vital water sources impacted by current land use patterns, the government has given the green light to a project under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' initiative. This initiative will see the demarcation of boundaries for major reservoirs managed by the Department of Irrigation, utilizing boundary markers aimed at clearly establishing land limits. An allocation of 100 million rupees has been earmarked for this project as part of the Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation Ministry's budget for 2025.

The project encompasses the initiation of activities at 21 selected reservoirs that are facing various forms of impact, with work expected to begin this year. Notable reservoirs such as Nuwara Wewa, Kanthalai Wewa, and Thisa Wewa have already seen the completion of boundary marking and installation of limit stones within this timeframe.

Moreover, there are 48 additional reservoirs included in the project proposal, yet to commence work, which is slated for completion in the coming years. This includes tasks such as conducting measurements, preparing and installing boundary stones, and undertaking tree planting initiatives.

For the period spanning 2025 to 2028, the total estimated cost for the remaining tasks has been calculated at 400 million rupees. The Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation Minister's proposal for the continued execution of this project via the Department of Irrigation has received ministerial approval, ensuring the sustainability of these essential water resources.
